Blaenau Gwent is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom.
The constituency boundaries are analogous to those of Blaenau Gwent county borough.
Blaenau Gwent under previous names had been held by Aneurin Bevan and Michael Foot, and was considered one of Labour's safest seats in the country.

Conwy is an electoral constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom.
The constituency, notably, does not include Colwyn Bay (or outlying Rhos-on-Sea), which forms part of a coastal conurbation (and the Conwy county borough) with Llandudno and its outlying town of Penrhyn Bay—both in the constituency; this area comes under the constituency of Clwyd West to the east.

The constituency was formed by merging together areas which were formerly within the Ross and Cromarty (UK Parliament constituency) and the Inverness-shire (UK Parliament constituency).
The constituency area is that of the Outer Hebrides, known also as Na h-Eileanan Siar, and the constituency has the smallest electorate in the United Kingdom, one-fifth of the size of the largest, the Isle of Wight (UK Parliament constituency), with the latter also being an island constituency.
In the 2005 UK general election, it was one of only two seats (the other being Blaenau Gwent (UK Parliament constituency)) in which the Conservative Party (UK) lost their deposit.

Blaenau Gwent's 'People's Voice' candidates have won stunning victories in the by-election held yesterday (Thursday, 30th June 2006) Trish Law won over 50% of the votes for the assembly elections and Dai Davies won 46.17% of the vote in the Parliamentary election.
New independent MP for Blaneau Gwent (which was once represented by Aneurin Bevin), Dai Davies, warned that major parties could become extinct if they did not listen to the public.
Hopefully putting the nail in the coffin of that little lie that Law's supporters were anti-woman is the fact that the female Trish Law squashed Labour's John Hopkins, who is apparently male.

The Seats of the Stoa, Two: Some generally sensible people seem pleased that Peter Law won in Blaenau Gwent, an "independent socialist" beating a candidate who'd been "parachuted in", etc., all of which makes him sound a much more attractive figure than he seems to me to be.
Of course politics requires institutions, and practices of sovereignty require institutionalisation, and democratically-elected parliaments may be a pretty good way of institutionalising the ideals of republican self-government.
The UK Bank Holiday will be marked in the UK on Monday 2 May. But we should remember that the celebrations should always take place on 1 May, regardless of what day of the week it falls on.
