His father, Captain Thomas Blair, a native of Scotland, was a soldier in the Revolutionary Army and after the independence of the colonies had been achieved be came, probably about 1785, to what is now Blair County, then part of Bedford, and established a home in the Gap which has since borne his name.

Blair Valley was divided between 2 states in 1764-67 when Mason and Dixon laid out a line of milestones which bore the letters M for Maryland and P for Pennsylvania.
Blair was descended from one of the pioneer families of this region for whom Blair's Fork was named.
It was established in 1964 as Blair Academy, a division of George Peabody College, by the Justin and Valere Potter Foundation through a bequest of Valere Blair Potter in memory of her mother, Myra Jackson Blair.

According to the s&t account, Blair County histories state that another furnace called Harriet was built in the same township at an earlier date.
A book belonging to W. Metz of Williamsburg, oldest member of the Blair County Historical Society, states that the Bennington Furnace originally was called the Henrietta Furnace, and s&t believe that the "Henrietta" became the "Harriet" through an error in transcription, and that they are one and the same furnace.
It Was the third furnace in Blair County and was built in 1817 by Dr. Peter Schoenberger, who later became the most prominent iron master in Pennsylvania.

According to Thomas Blair's youngest son, who lived until the late 1920's, a large group of Blairs arrived in Philadelphia, and made their way down through VA on their way to what is now know as Blair in Fairfield County (Camden District before 1800), SC.
Whether any of these Blairs are related to each other is not known, but due to their proximity in such a remote area, there is a good possibility that several of them are brothers or at least cousins.
Another James Blair (b 1790-1800) appears in the 1830 Newberry census, and his name is beside that of Jane Blair (b 1750-1760), possibly the widow of his father or uncle.

The Blair County Collaborative Delinquency Prevention Program (BCCDPP) will serve youths in elementary, middle, and junior high school who exhibit pre-delinquent behaviors such as truancy, tardiness, runaway behavior, status or summary offenses, and incorrigible behavior.
The program is designed to engage children and their parents in a motivational and skill building program which connects the family with parenting education and provides support and counseling both in and outside the home.
Referrals to the program will be made by Children and Youth, Juvenile Probation, and their Peer Jury, Blair County School Districts, the Family Resource Center of Blair County, other social service agencies, as well as self-referral.
