The township of Blairstown was incorporated on February 20, 1845, and was taken from Knowlton Township.
Following the abandonment of Hope by the Moravians, the township was mainly devoted to agriculture, with the main center of trade and social activities continuing in Hope.
During the mid-nineteenth century, the Delaware Branch of the New Jersey Midland Railroad was constructed through the southern portion of the township.

BLAIRSTOWN — More than 100 citizens overflowed a Blair Academy lecture hall Wednesday to express their feelings on a plan that will reduce the size of the township police department and demote two senior officers.
The Township Committee voted 3-2 Wednesday to reduce the number of hours the township is patrolled from 18 to 15.
The Township Committee, which experienced turnover in the November election after the contract was approved, included a 4 percent pay increase for patrolmen and requires a minimum of two police officers on patrol during a staffed shift.

BLAIRSTOWN — When the one-lane bridge on Route 521 was no longer sufficient, officials came up with a solution: build another one-lane bridge next to it.
Blairstown Mayor Al Handy said the solution solves two problems: improving traffic flow on the busy road between Montague and Hope and saving the historic one-lane bridge.
The bridge crosses over the former Lackawanna Cutoff rail line and is near the former Blairstown station, both of which are proposed to be reactivated under a plan to restore passenger rail service on the line from Hoboken to Scranton, Pa. Another local stop is proposed to be in Andover Township.

 White Lake and the Vass House in Hardwick, Warren County NJ
In 1812, Vass built a new home for his new and enlarging family on his 550 acres of farmland, located between Blairstown and Stillwater on the road that is today labeled Route 521.
The beautiful farm and farmhouse were bought for investment by the brothers, their new company was named the Kero-Hardwick Corporation, but they also used it for summer vacations for their families, and deer and bear hunting in the fall, for the menfolk.
In 1997 the property was acquired by a combination of the Ridge and Valley Conservancy, Green Acres, Warren County, and foundation groups, deeding ownership to the Conservancy and the State of New Jersey.
