 The Films of Blake Edwards
Blake Edwards is the grandson of silent screen director J. Gordon Edwards, who made many of Theda Bara's films.
Edwards has done a lot of dramas in recent years, and his dramatic skills are just nowhere as good as his magnificent comic skills.
Edwards has superimposed the two here, so that the building of suspense in the dance sequence corresponds to suspense of watching the mysterious murderer execute another one of his crimes.

the agony booth forum - Blake Edwards to receive an Oscar
Posted - December 17 2003 : 8:24:23 PM Blake Edwards certainly isn't alone in having both an Oscar and an appearance in the booth.
Posted - December 14 2003 : 8:44:12 PM It was confirmed on Friday that at the upcoming Academy Awards, Blake Edwards will receive an Honorary Oscar.
Edwards has an impressive resume as a writer, producer, and director with many well-remembered films - although things fizzled out in the mid-1980s - and it's hard to argue that he doesn't deserve some recognition.

Amazon.ca: Video: The Man Who Loved Women [IMPORT]
Blake Edwards scores in a few areas ignored by Truffaut, however; first, he includes a riotously funny subplot where Fowler travels to Texas and has an affair with an oilman's wife (Kim Basinger) who is turned on by sexual activity in high-risk places.
Blake Edwards's 1983 remake of Francois Truffaut's classic, "The Man Who Loved Women" (1977) has the basic elements of countless adult films: it plays like an extended male/female sexual fantasy.
Anyone who has seen this original, need not venture to this 1983 remake, the land of Blake Edwards, his family and his friends.

 VH1.com : Movies : Person : Blake Edwards : Biography
Blake started his own film career as an actor in 1943; he played bits in A-movies and leads in B-movies, paying his dues in such trivialities as Gangs of the Waterfront and Strangler of the Swamp (both 1945).
In 1958, Edwards produced, directed, and occasionally wrote for a hip TV detective series, Peter Gunn, which was distinguished by its film noir camerawork and driving jazz score by Henry Mancini.
In 1964, Edwards introduced the bumbling Inspector Clouseau to an unsuspecting world in The Pink Panther, leading to a string of money-spinning Clouseau films starring Peter Sellers; actually, The Pink Panther was Edwards' second Clouseau movie, since A Shot in the Dark, although released after Panther, was filmed first.

Enjoyable though the stars of Blake Edwards' comedy may be, the film is stolen by Lesley Ann Warren, who won an Oscar nomination as King's screechy-voiced moll, and Alex Karras as King's chief henchman, who, assuming that his boss is "that way," literally comes out of the closet.
Writer-director Blake Edwards, who reaches for high notes and often falls painfully flat, achieved perfect pitch in this comedy musical matching Julie Andrews (his wife) with a brilliant cast of supporting players, including Robert Preston and James Garner.

 AMCTV.com - Blake Edwards Biography
Edwards married the era's cinematic sweetheart Julie Andrews and starred her in his large but notoriously unsuccessful WWI romantic spoof, Darling Lili (1970).
After a brief stint as an actor and movie extra, Edwards turned to writing, creating the successful radio program "Richard Diamond: Private Detective." This caught Hollywood's attention and he was soon co-writing several small movie musicals.
After several frustrating critical and box office failures (which Edwards attributed to studio interference) he and Andrews retreated to Switzerland.
