She was a farmer's daughter from Helena, elected to the U.S. House as a single woman in 1992 (the first woman to represent the 1st District); she declined to run for reelection in 1996 after becoming pregnant, but came back to run for Senate in 1998, and became the youngest woman Senator ever elected.
We don't agree on every issue, but for the most part she's carried on the moderate progressive tradition of her predecessor Dale Bumpers.
