Blanchet was arrested for high treason and taken to Montreal where he was imprisoned on 16 December.
In these circumstances Blanchet deemed it preferable to withdraw to St Paul (Oreg.), in the Willamette valley, leaving Brouillet behind; the latter remained until American soldiers arrived to avenge their fellow citizens in February 1848.
Thanks to their efforts Blanchet was set free on 31 March 1838 on £1,000 bail.

Why Kill Jean Dominique by Michèle Pierre-Louis
Jean Dominique was one of the finest analysts of the mutations that shock and are still shaking our society and of the multifaceted resistance that is opposed to any challenge to the status quo.
Jean was until the day of his murder the advisor of the President of the Republic, René Préval.
He was its spokesman in some manner, feeling obligated to justify the logic of this project or that action of the government, trying to demonstrate in some detail that the folks in the slums and the countryside, in particular the peasants, were the main beneficiaries of governmental policies.

Russell Collection of Early Keyboard Instruments
After the death of Blanchet in April 1766, he became a journeyman (maître) harpsichord builder, married Blanchet's widow, and took over Blanchet's workshop in the Rue de la Verrerie.
Jean Goermans was the founder of a family, originally of Flemish origin, of harpsichord and piano builders.
The 1764 instrument by Jean Goermans was originally built with the classic French disposition having two 8' and one 4' stops on the lower manual and one 8' stop on the upper manual, all using quill plectra.

 ACTUALITÉ
Blanchet will be receiving one full year of salary: $257,500, plus an $18,000 bonus and an annual lifelong pension of $80,000 - that's $33,000 more a year than the previous government had agreed to.
Claude Blanchet could set an interesting example by giving back whatever amount of his pension that he didn't contribute to it while he was at the SGF.
But Blanchet's personal comfy finances aside, the problem is that his case is no exception.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Pierre-Jean de Smet
Realizing the magnitude of the task before him, De Smet went to Europe in 1843 to solicit funds and workers, and in 1844 with new labourers for the missions, among them being six Sisters of Notre-Dame de Namur, he returned, rounding Cape Horn and casting anchor in the mouth of the Columbia River at Astoria.
When he found that a punitive expedition had been determined on, he refused to lend to it the sanction of his presence.
The archives of St. Louis University contain all the originals of De Smet's writings known to be extant.

Charles-Eugène Boucher de Boucherville - The Jiggies Reference Guide
The leader of the Opposition to the Mercier government had been Jean Blanchet, who had taken over after Louis-Olivier Taillon lost the 1890 election and his own seat, but Blanchet had resigned on September 19, 1891 to accept an appointment as a judge.
His second term came about after Honoré Mercier was removed from office by Lieutenant Governor Auguste-Réal Angers on December 16, 1891 on charges of corruption (of which Mercier was later to be cleared).
Thus, the Lieutenant Governor needed a Conservative to fill the post of premier, and turned to Boucher de Boucherville, who had held that post before.
