The High Court in Lilongwe on Tuesday ruled that the treason case involving Vice-President Cassim Chilumpha should be heard in Blantyre because that is where the crime was allegedly committed.
Judge Ivy Kamanga made the ruling following an application from Chilumpha’s lawyer Fahad Assani that the case be heard in Blantyre because, among other things, the suspect lives in Blantyre where the crime was allegedly committed and that there was a high possibility that defence witnesses would also come from Blantyre.
Assani also argued that he was not given sufficient time to prepare for the case and that the High Court in Blantyre had set Thursday for bail application for the suspects.
