		Blast beat is a drum beat consisting of rapid alternating or coinciding strokes on the snare and hi-hat or cymbal.
		Blast beats are a prominent feature of death metal, fl metal and grindcore, although they make appearances in other genres from time to time, to increase the speed, density, and percussiveness.
		One of the most common blast beats, used extensively in extreme metal, is one where single stroke 16th notes are played between the hi-hats and snare drum, and on every 8th note, a bass drum is hit.

		A blastbeat involves a fast, straight snare beat (8th notes at 180bpm or higher), often with a similar ride or hi-hat alternating alongside - or occuring with - it.
		The bass drum can either be on the beat or off the beat, and you can always cut the footwork in half (some people stupidly call this the "cheat blast") by splitting it over both your feet with two bass drums when the tempo gets to 260+.
		Sure doing any blast fast and well is a great feat but nobody had to get their PHD to make up a new one therefor doesn't really merit giving it a new name.
