Auburn University, Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology, 301 Funchess Hall, Auburn, AL The toxicity (LT) of four boric acid dust formulations, ranging in concentration from 40 to 99%, was evaluated at five different relative humidities (0, 12, 57.5, 75, and 100%) and in the presence of liquid water.
However, the LT of all dust formulations declined exponentially with increasing amounts of liquid water.

Availability and abundance of prey for the red-cockaded woodpecker   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-11)
Examination of nearly 12,000 photographs recorded over 5 years revealed that, although red-cockaded woodpeckers used over 40 arthropods for food, the majority of the nestling diet is comprised of a relatively small number of common arthropods.
Wood cockroaches (Blattaria: Blattellidae) were always the most common prey fed to nestlings, comprising 54.7% of their diet.
Our results suggest that management of foraging areas can be fairly flexible without harming the arthropods on which red-cockaded woodpeckers rely.

Wood cockroaches (Blattaria: Blattellidae) are important prey of the red-cockaded woodpecker, Picoides borealis Wilson (Piciformes: Picidae), an endangered species inhabiting pine (Pinus spp.) forests in the southern United States.
These woodpeckers forage on the boles of live pine trees, but their prey consists of a high proportion of wood cockroaches, Parcoblatta spp., that are more commonly associated with dead plant material.

The ootheca may be carried for some time by the female before being deposited on the ground or buried in the soil.
Cockroaches of the family Blaberidae and Blattellidae, however display a few different reproductive strategies.
Some push out the ootheca, but rather than depositing it somewhere, they retract it back into a uterus or brood sac where the eggs develop.

The oothecal parasitoid Comperia merceti (Compere) has been used as a biological control agent against the brownbanded cockroach, Supella longipalpa (F.) (Orthoptera: Blattellidae), in environments where pesticide use is undesirable (Slater et al.
