Blattodea is the order of insects commonly known as cockroaches.
Recent research indicates that termites (order Isoptera) are directly derived from cockroaches, with the cockroach genus Cryptocercus being more closely related to termites than it is to other cockroaches; in other words, order Blattodea is paraphyletic if termites are excluded.
Mantids (order Mantodea) are also closely related to cockroaches, and molecular research suggests that they are the sister group to extant (Blattodea Isoptera).
