	Blaydon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Blaydon (postally Blaydon on Tyne) is a town in the North East of England in the Metropolitan Borough of Gateshead.
		It is represented in the House of Commons by the Blaydon constituency.
		Blaydon traditionally has been a mining town, however has developed a more diverse economy, including engineering, factories and general convenience stores.

		Although the account of the trip to Blaydon is a fiction, the heavy rain and missing cuddy (horses) were reported in the local press.
		The Blaydon Race is also a 5.7 mile athletics race from Newcastle to Blaydon, that is steeped in local tradition.
		The 25th aniversary of the race was run by Blaydon Harriers in 2005 as the "Nike Jim Dewar Blaydon Race" in memory Jim who died in June 2004, just 2 days after the running of the 24th event.

		In 1862 the Blaydon Races were to be held on an island in the middle of the River Tyne at Blaydon but they were called off when a heavy storm made it impossible for the horses to plodge their way across to the race course.
