I can imagine (somewhat) the effects of doing bleach bypass on Black and White negative, but are there any examples out there.
The normal bleach step is in color processing only, to convert developed silver back into silver halide so it can be removed in the fixer and wash steps, leaving only color dye.

Basically bleach bypass is exactly that, 100% of the silver is left in the print, ENR is a variable process from 0% silver to 100% silver.

From my small research, it seems that this is achieved by bypassing the bleach bath in C-41 development of standard negative film.
The technique you suggest has provided me with the equivalent of Bleach Bypass but what I'm looking for is called Selective Bleach Bypass, which is a smoother version of the former.
Hi, i think you dont have the rigth definition for bleach bypass, because bleach bypass give a warmer look to the shot, almost a brownish look with hi contrast, what you want its call cross process...anyway take a look of my shot for those who like the effect i send it to you by email.

 APUG - Bleach bypass
The function of "bleach" in the color process is to remove dyes "unaffected" by exposure to light after the "affected" dyes have been "nailed" in place by the fixer.
I don't know about setting up the rest of the process or adjusting the film speeds though--I read a little bit about this a couple of years ago on PDN's site, you could check there....my impression was it's similar in a way to cross processing.hope this helps a bit.

In magic bullet's look suite, there is a bleach bypass preset.
Bleach bypass has different effects depending on when it is performed.
Seeing as you can control transparency levels this is actually closer to ENR and ACE controlled silver retention than Bleach bypass, so you get even more bang for your buck.

 APUG - Bleach bypass processing?
Skipping bleach on the negative blows out your highlights with an increase of grain, increase in contrast and an increase in saturation.
Skipping bleach on the positive print crushes fls, increases contrast and decreases saturation with a nominal increase of grain (this can depend on how it was exposed, whether pushed processed or flashed).
Needless to say I have no idea of what the effect you would get by skipping bleach in C-41 is. I sure would be very interested in seeing it though.

We watched 21 Grams last night (a film done with severe bleach bypass) and were pleased with the look.
if you are shooting 16mm i suggest you stay away from doing bleach unless your going for that look or you really know what you're doing and have a lot of time to work with lighting.

I have just checked the minority report special feature and they talked about bleach bypass to give the "blue - cold" look to the movie (as done into underworld).
I think they are using the curve but i'm not pretty sure; it works but the skins isn't really turning white so How they bleach the picture...
Ps: If you have the chance check the minority report's special features they are really great and they pushed up the work of the artist (all kind of cinema artist) from the storyboard to the actor.

The negative is processed in the normal manner except that the film is misses the bleach tank, and this will leave all the Silver in the negative along with the colour dyes.
You shold shot tests to make sure you get the correct exposure, an exposure change of 1-2 stops under exposed may be required.
Some labs will also charge more for this process as no 'Normal' Process work can be done, and machine tests need to be run after the bleach bypass has been completed.

The reason I say, or something, is that different labs all over the world become more or less cagey when you ask them: What EXACTLY do you do in your “skip-bleach” process.
So I guess this is an appeal to Labs to bring down the cost of final printing in Bleach by pass.

Reporting from his set visit to BOF, PJWares says he believes BB is gonna have bleach bypass, a technique that gives the movie a sort of "washed out" look and has been employed in movies like Blade and, I believe, Se7en.
Although its not a scene, the pics of Pitt and Norton are bleach bypassed.
They used it in DD as well originally, although later scrapped it and went for a similar look with digital coloring and such.

If you do a search for "bleach bypass" on Google, you can find all sorts of good tech info on how the process is done.
Note: the 'bleach bypass' image is just an example of what it can look, there are several possible results you can get from the process.
The main reasoning for using the bleach bypass is to make the shadows darker, and the look a bit edgier/grittier.

There is even a pretty convincing Bleach Bypass that looks very nice.
You can see in the helicopter shot of the Chrysler building in New York that the original footage was kind of muddy and soft (On of the hazards of shooting out of a dirty window at dusk).
With Bleach Bypass applied the footage became more usable for the short segment that it was needed for.
