1997/05/22 23:33 PARDOM FOR USTASHE, INDICTMENT FOR PARTISANS
In the Bleiburg field in Austria, in the end of the Second World War, a mass reprisal was taken against the remains of the Ustashe forces, along with which a lot of civilians were withdrawing.
It was said on the occasion that Bleiburg victims had given their lives for the "greatest human ideals - homeland, nation and creed", that they were Croatian sorrow and pride, and that the example of their patriotism should be an inspiration.
On the contrary, the fact that reprisal had been taken in Bleiburg, unnecessary and without a trial, that among the defeated allies of Hitler were numerous civilians, is used to draw a conclusion about their complete righteousness, while the partisans are proclaimed executioners, sadists and criminlas.

It should be noted that vengeance for the crimes committed by the Ustashas was executed immediately after the war, with the terrible massacres at Bleiburg in Austria and during the so-called Way of the Cross (Death Marches), when many innocent opponents of the Communist regime were also killed.
Therefore, enacting vengeance against the Croatians, with whom the Serbians in Croatia have peacefully lived for the past 45 years, could not be excused, neither morally nor politically.

All the people captured by Bleiburg were in the full sense of wartime logic "momentarily not dangerous" and therefore from the wartime point of view innocent.
The reason (not an excuse) for that can be found in for us characteristic jumping from one extreme to another, from the atmosphere in which Bleiburg could not be even mentioned in public to the period in which Ustashe were publicly (and almost in all cases) celebrated as Croat patriots on steroids.
