It's two years since David Sylvian's latest album 'Blemish' was released.
It's called 'The good son vs The only daughter', and it is a remix-album.
"On 'The Good Son vs. The Only Daughter Sylvian takes the recordings of 'Blemish', and, in collaboration with a group of remixers including Ryoji Ikeda, Akira Rabelais, Burnt Friedman and Readymade FC, offers a set of radical re-workings of the “originals”, transforming them into yet unheard of delights.

The Good Son vs. The Only Daughter, The Blemish Remixes, spiazza invertendo la rotta.

One of the top 2 “Albums of the Year” for The Wire magazine in 2003, ‘blemish’ was heralded by many as an extraordinary work that cemented Sylvian’s reputation of always challenging himself as well as his audience.
David Sylvian *personally* commissioned remixes of material from his critically acclaimed album BLEMISH, which was released in 2003.
This album of remixes, entitled THE GOOD SON VS THE ONLY DAUGHTER, includes innovative contributions from Burnt Friedman, Yoshihiro Hanno, Ryoji Ikeda, Akira Rabelais, Readymade FC, and more.

Somehow I don't think this remix album of Blemish is going to make him change his mind.
Challenging re-working of the Blemish album, April 30, 2005
This may be a device, as is often the case with remix albums to keep the punters happy till Sylvians next work becomes available, but on the evidence of The Only Daughter there may well be a clamouring for more re-workings of his back catalogue.

CLUAS - ten great album opening tracks
Not only does this track fabulously open the album with moving lyrics, angelic vocals and dizzy melodies, it also was the beginning of his whole short-lived career as it is the opening track on his eponymously titled debut album.
And then - once in a while - that first song is a certified 44 carat gem (with a little blemish on its underside to add a bit of intrigue).
They were on to something great in the songs - and their arrangement - in this album.

 Hour.ca - Music - Spin - Confessions on a Dance Floor - Madonna
It seems very ill-placed on the album and is definitely, by far, the weakest track on the album, but not nearly as big a blemish as "I'm So Stupid" was to American Life.
Madonna is back with a deliciously pleasing album, and having been a fan since Like a Prayer I have to say I didn't doubt it would happen.
Supposedly, rumor has it, she wanted her new album to be one giant pure, dance album.

 The Sweet cd music
There is one tiny blemish on this album - the apalling remix on the end.
Add in several album favourites ("Silverbird", "Live for Today", "4th of July"), a number of singles that didn't quite make it ("Fever of Love", "Stairway to the Stars") and several rare cover versions ("Paperback Writer", "Lucille" and "Great Balls of Fire") and you have an album packed with energy and power.
There are also some key album cuts which show just how influential they actually were.

Burzum - Det Som Engang Var
The ending of the song is conclusive enough to make a 2 minute outro sound quite unnecessary, and the existence of it is the only real blemish on the album, though the harm is quite insignificant.
After "Snu Mikrokosmos Tegn", the album outro seems rather onerous, as the former would be a perfect end to a stupendous work of music.
Throughout the 40 odd minutes of this album, Varg lets the listener dream with him, bringing forth a sonic-scope where one can safely delve.

DAVID SYLVIAN - The Good Son Vs The Only Daughter (The Blemish Remixes)
The Good Son Vs The Only Daughter somewhat attempts to redress the balance, although I feel that secretely all David Sylvian aficionados crave those subtle elements of pop he frequently used to inject into his music – and to some extent this album delivers that.
Overall, and like most remix albums, The Good Son Vs The Only Daughter has its ups and downs, some of the remixes are astonishing, some rather ordinary – doing little to enhance the original track and failing to grasp the sentiment behind Sylvian’s mood – but this is almost unavoidable.
Nevertheless, although comparisons are inevitable, I believe in giving every album the chance to stand on its own two feet, in which case this is still a magnificently accomplished album, full of flair, skill and artistry in the truest sense.

Working Dogs Book Store - The Good Son vs. The Only Daughter: Blemish Remixes
BUt the second thing it does is far more intriguing-- the pieces from "Blemish", a dense, difficult album with a lack of concrete melody and traditional structure, are rendered in fashions that are actually more listenable.
Mind you, I feel it falls short of the original album's brilliance in that it is a lot less dense, but its pretty unusual for a remix album to sound more commercially viable than the original.
Perhaps the strangest remix album I have ever heard, "The Good Son vs. the Only Daughter" does two things.

What makes “The Good Son Vs The Only Daughter” so beautifully intangible is the invisible narrative that runs through it, press play, close your eyes and it sounds like one continuous mix of some of the most divine, varied and moving music you could possibly imagine, all accompanied by Sylvian’s larger than life presence.

The album does have a lot of decent tracks on it, but the only song that really stands out is "We Be Burnin'." The rest of the album can still rock a party, however, with the exception of filler tracks like the dry "I'll Take You There" and the graphic "Give It Up To Me".
I became certain of a few things when I first heard this track: I would get this album and this would be the best track on it.

PyroMusic.net - Review of: Steve Vai - Sex & Religion
It didn't take much time before Vai had his vocalist and the two began polishing off what was to, depending on your opinion, become a blemish on an otherwise strong career of Steve Vai, a launch pad for another brilliant career and to some, one of the best albums of the 90s.
The mighty ego of Mr Vai was clearly shattered at the resulting fan-crucifixion for his third album and it's a damn shame that the generally negative response to this record lead to a quick return to the Vai of old (which admittedly is still great).
As fate would have it, Steve Vai was seeking a new vocalist for an upcoming album and his record company passed Devin's tape on to him.

Techno is a form of electronic music that emerged in the mid-1980s and primarily refers to a particular style developed in and around Detroit and subsequently adopted by European producers.

However the time-honored “singer-switcharoo” stigma had failed to blemish The Dillinger Escape Plan, who have come back with their first album in almost five years led by the short yet colossal presence of new singer Greg Puciato who has been replaced by former lead vocalist Dimitri Minakakis.
