 History of the USS Blenny
Blenny (SS-324) was laid down on 8 July 1943 at Groton, Conn., by the Electric Boat Co.; launched on 9 April 1944; sponsored by Miss Florence B. King; and commissioned at New London, Conn., on 27 July 1944, Lt. Comdr.
Her approach had to be made in relatively shallow water; therefore, Blenny flooded down and backed awash toward the shore and her target while a sailor on the fantail took depth soundings with a lead line.
Blenny alternated between tours of duty with the 6th Fleet and extended assignments in the western Atlantic where she conducted test and evaluation operations and took part in antisubmarine training.

PetPlace.com - Article: Choosing a Blenny   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
Blennies haven’t enjoyed the popularity of other saltwater fish because they’re rather colorless by comparison, but most reef-keepers believe that no saltwater tank is complete without at least one.
Most species of blennies that are kept in tanks come from tropical shallow waters near patch reefs, tidal pools and other such “cozy” shallow habitats along the coast.
Blennies don’t like to be disturbed and their behavior can even be described as “secretive,” but they are also curious and slightly aggressive at the same time.

Blennies are small, agile fish whose Hawaiian and English common names refer to their ability to jump from one tidepool to another.
Unlike their tidepool neighbors, the gobies, blennies do not have a sucker disc to help hold them in place as waves wash through the pools.
Blennies take up residence in protected crevices or holes within the tidepool, and may remain faithful to a site for long periods of time.

The sabre-toothed blenny, Aspidontus taeniatus, is a species of blenny that imitates the "dance" of a similarly colored species of cleaner wrasse.

Practical Fishkeeping magazine | Fang blenny is definitely a mimic
The Fang blenny, Plagiotremus rhinorhynchos, a specialised predator which feeds on chunks of skin and fin from marine fish, has evolved mimetic colouration to enable it to mingle with groups of Cleaner wrasse, Labroides dimidiatus.
To test whether the feeding success of the blennies was dependent on the presence of the Cleaner wrasse, the scientists caught most of the wrasse and removed them from the area to see what would happen.
Interestingly, when the wrasse were removed, the blennies colouration changed back to the non-mimetic form, which doesn't resemble the markings of the Cleaner wrasse.

Gobies are similar to the blennies, with long, blunt heads, except they are usually more colorful and their pelvic fins are fused to provide a 'suction disc' which they use to perch on rocks and the sea floor.
Some blennies have been known to be somewhat territorial, so care should be taken if you put them in with fish less than twice their size.
