Blenny was decommissioned in 1969, after 25 years of service to her country.
Blenny's final resting place is 12 miles southeast of Ocean City Inlet, Maryland in seventy feet of water.
Blenny continues to serve as an underwater memorial for sport and wreck divers.

USS Blenny (SS/AGSS-324), a Balao-class">Balao-class submarine, was a ship of the United States Navy named for the blenny, a fish found along the rocky shores of the Atlantic Ocean.
Blenny (SS-324) was launched 9 April 1944 by Electric Boat Co., Groton, Conn. ; sponsored by Miss Florence King, daughter of CNO Admiral Ernest J. King; commissioned 27 July 1944, Lieutenant Commander W. Hazzard in command; and reported to the Pacific Fleet.
Blenny was reclassified an Auxiliary Submarine, AGSS-324, circa 1964.

 History of the USS Blenny
Blenny (SS-324) was laid down on 8 July 1943 at Groton, Conn., by the Electric Boat Co.; launched on 9 April 1944; sponsored by Miss Florence B. King; and commissioned at New London, Conn., on 27 July 1944, Lt. Comdr.
Her approach had to be made in relatively shallow water; therefore, Blenny flooded down and backed awash toward the shore and her target while a sailor on the fantail took depth soundings with a lead line.
Blenny alternated between tours of duty with the 6th Fleet and extended assignments in the western Atlantic where she conducted test and evaluation operations and took part in antisubmarine training.

Between 1946 and 1951 Blenny made one cruise to China (August-November 1946); participated in a midshipman cruise to Canada; made two winter cruises in Alaskan waters (1947-48 and 1948-49); and participated in fleet maneuvers off Hawaii and local operations near San Diego.

Blenny's story began at Electric Boat, Groton Connecticut on 5 April 1944.
Forty-two officers and crew members of the USS Blenny (SS-324), including her war time skipper, Captain William Hazzard, traveled to Ocean City, MD from all over the country to witness the last dive of their “Sub” on June 7, 1989: she will continue to serve mankind as a reef.
The Blenny was towed fifteen miles out to sea accompanied by us in chartered boats where she made her last plunge beneath the Atlantic waves.

Sometime during 1969 she was re-designated as an auxiliary submarine (AGSS-324) and in September she was placed in reserve.

In 1982 we also obtained an inappropriate main deck gun (that was considered to be better than no main deck gun) until the proper weapon could be located from a Los Angelos tank museum.
Equipment was also removed from USS Blenny (SS-324) before she was sunk as an artificial reef off the coast of Maryland, USS Turbot (SS-427) before she was scrapped and USS Sailfish (SS-572).
The replacement of the topside guns is a good example of how things came together.

The value of the coordinated attack group was quickly proved as on 6 February GUAVINA was directed in for the kill by PAMPANITO and sank a 6,892-ton tanker.
