Topic: Bleu celeste

Azure - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Because it comes from a French word that simply means "blue", a wide range of color values is used in the depiction of azure in armory and flags.
In addition to the standard blue tincture called azure, there is a lighter blue sometimes found that is called bleu celeste or "sky blue".
Neither azure nor bleu celeste is precisely defined as a particular shade of blue, but azure is consistently depicted in a much darker shade.

 Train Bleu
Bleu celeste ("sky blue") is a rarely-occurring tincture in heraldry (not being one of the seven main colours or metals or the three "staynard colours").
Bleu celeste can be seen in http://www.mad-alchemy.com/hsc/tress1.htm the arms of the Canadian Governor General Ray Hnatyshyn.
The ''parti bleu'' formed an alliance with Tories in Upper Canada in the legislative assembly of the united Province of Canada, and later joined with them to form the Conservative Party of Canada.

These are rare - the seven primary tinctures are the most common ones, and rarer still are other such Continental colours as "Brunatre." Brunatre, can be seen in the brown lion rampant in the arms of Simon Bolivar, and is blazoned "Braun" in German heraldry.
There is some evidence that bleu celeste has been treated as a metal, as azure charges have been placed on a bleu celeste field, and vice versa.
In addition to bleu celeste, there is also an apparently unique example in British heraldry of the use of "dark blue" and "light blue," in the arms of the Borough of Barnes, through which the Oxford verus Cambridge boat race passes on the Thames, showing the respective blades of the teams' oars.

Vincennes Vase, Sèvres Soft Paste Porcelain, 1753 CE While soft paste porcelain had been made earlier in France at both St. Cloud and Chantilly, it was at Sèvres that soft paste porcelain reached its height, and Sèvres would become the most famous manufacturer in Europe.
This piece was decorated by Antoine Caton, and displays one of Sèvres' distinctive overglaze colors, called 'bleu celeste,' or celestial blue.
Other colors were 'bleu lapis' (a deep blue-fl), vert (green), noir (fl), and rose (pink).

Limoges Porcelain Boxes > catalog > Boites Classsique et Parfum 5
In the very early days of Limoges boxes, when the finest porcelain was made by the Sèvres factory, cobalt was the color that Sèvres developed, perfected and used extensively.
Then it was called variously, bleu de roi and bleu cèleste and over the years it became known as Sèvres blue.
Over the centuries it has remained a color that is much identified with French porcelain and because of this I thought we should have a strong selection of boxes in the color.

Adrian Sassoon Apollo - Find Articles
In response to the continued popularity of turquoise-blue Vincennes and Sevres porcelain, Adrian Sassoon has recently published a new catalogue devoted to the highly sought-after bleu celeste pieces from these prestigious factories.
Ranging in date from 1753--the first year this regal colour was commercially produced--to 1783, the objects illustrated all possess the dense richness associated with this particular hue.
Needless to say, all the porcelain is exquisitely crafted and extremely elegant, and it is interesting to note the tonal variations of the blue celeste apparent in some of the earlier works.
