Blind Faith - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Blind Faith were an English blues supergroup which consisted of Eric Clapton (The Yardbirds, Cream), Ginger Baker (Graham Bond Organisation, Cream), Steve Winwood (Traffic) and Ric Grech (Family).
The group only released one album, Blind Faith, in August 1969 (see 1969 in music) and were often seen as stylistically similar to the bands which Winwood and Clapton had most recently participated in, Traffic and Cream.
The recording of their album continued, followed by a short tour of Scandinavia where the band played smaller gigs and were able to rehearse their sound and prepare it for bigger audiences in America and England.

 Blind Faith
Blind Faith was a band formed in 1969 when Eric Clapton (ex-Cream) and Steve Winwood (ex-Traffic) were at a loose end following the demise of their former bands and began to spend time together again (they had previously collaborated on record as Powerhouse), jamming and working on new material at Clapton's house in Surrey.
Recording of their album continued, followed by a short tour of Scandinavia, then a US tour from July 11 (Newport) to August 24 (Hawaii) supported by Free[?] and Delaney & Bonnie & Friends[?].
An expanded de-luxe edition of the album was released in 2001 with previously unreleased tracks and 'jams' included.

Blind Faith was either one of the great successes of the late 1960's, a culmination of the decade's efforts by three legendary musicians--or it was a disaster of monumental proportions, and a symbol of everything that had gone wrong with the business of rock at the close of the decade.
There was very good music on Blind Faith, but there wasn't a lot of it--barely 40 minutes' worth, which was hardly a body of music worthy of a international-class act.
For all of their musical merits, which were considerable, Blind Faith's short life-span made them virtually a symbol of the tail-end of the 1960's and what those years were about: Too much too soon in that overheated cultural, psychic, and business environment, even for the prodigious talents and personalities involved, resulting in a quick burn-out.

By then the group was known as Blind Faith, a slyly cynical reference that reflected Clapton's outlook on the new group.
Meanwhile, the memory of Blind Faith lingered with the group's sole album, which became a perennial favorite in Clapton's, Winwood's, and Baker's catalogs.

Blind Faith's lone album is often considered vivid proof as to why superstar collaborations simply don't work but, in retrospect, it does have something to offer.
Blind Faith's first and last album, more than 30 years old and counting, remains one of the jewels of the Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, and Ginger Baker catalogs, despite the crash-and-burn history of the band itself, which scarcely lasted six months.
As much a follow-up to Traffic's self-titled second album as it is to Cream's final output, it merges the soulful blues of the former with the heavy riffing and outsized song lengths of the latter for a very compelling sound unique to this band.

The Polydor UK album had a gatefold cover with a naked girl externally and 2 different fl and white photos (from the same photo shoot as the alternative cover) inside.
This is disappointing, as the album is a combination of the virtuosity of Cream with a more spiritual feel to the words, compared to the more abstract content of Cream lyrics.

I had the good fortune to see Blind Faith at Hyde park in 69' not quite what I had expected but being a big fan of both Cream and Family it was great to hear Eric's guitar and Rick's bass and violin playing.
And as much as I would of loved to see and hear where Blind Faith could of went with their supergroup, I think just because they had a chance to only do one record, this becomes a treasure and a mystery in the world of classic rock.

Faith loomed so large that their initial tour began to sell out before their first album was committed to tape, let alone pressed on vinyl.

Short-lived classic-rock supergroup Blind Faith's sole album (1969) has aged remarkably well.
The record has a lot of surprises; "Presence of the Lord" is rousing and melancholy at the same time, while the way the bass and guitar double-team on the introductory melodic line to "Had to Cry Today" makes a hard-rock clichÞ fresh again.
The 10-minute drum solo on "Do What You Like" is pretty good as 10-minute drum solos go; Blind Faith is not a purchase for the jam-shy, especially in its present, bloated form, which adds almost an hour and a half of unreleased jams and mixes.

From the opening bars of "Had to Cry Today," this album reverberates in a way that few other albums do and Winwood's vocals are a big part of that.
