BLISS is a typeless block-structured language based on expressions rather than statements, and includes constructs for exception handling, coroutines, and macros.
DEC developed and maintained BLISS compilers for the PDP-10, PDP-11, and VAX, and used it heavily in-house into the 1980s; most of the utility programs for the VMS operating system were written in BLISS-32.

Bliss published two papers in 1902: one in the Annals of Mathematics was based on his doctoral dissertation and had the same title The geodesic lines on the anchor ring while the second in the Transactions of the American Mathematical Society was titled The second variation of a definite integral when one end-point is variable.
Bliss was appointed as an associate professor at the University of Chicago on the death of Maschke and he remained at Chicago until he retired.

Zenas Randall Bliss, United States army officer, was born in Rhode Island and was appointed from his native state to the United States Military Academy at West Point on July 1, 1850.
Bliss was brevetted to major in the regular army in 1862 for "gallant and meritorious service" at the battle of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and to lieutenant colonel in 1864 for his service at the battle of the Wilderness.
At the battle of Fredericksburg Bliss led his regiment, which had never before been under fire, to within a few yards of the Confederate lines before being repulsed, thereby winning the Medal of Honor.

Bliss has been called a virus for Linux, a common Unix trojan, a virus-like trojan with worm-like features etc, depending on whom you ask.
Quick summary: if you run bliss (which is, by the way, not specific to Linux and can be compiled for SunOS, Solaris, and OpenBSD) or any binary infected with bliss, it tries to attach itself to (i.e.: infect) all binaries that you have write access to, on all machines that you have rsh access to.
Another message shows that the information about bliss was provided to McAfee by a participant on the linux-security mailing list, where the sighting of the alpha version had been posted previously.
