Blogging can be a viable customer service feature for some companies
The most popular tool and the one that is credited with starting it all is Blogger, a free service from Pyra Labs, which was recently acquired by Google.
If the company implements a blogging tool, it will be customer service that is communicating outwardly when it is the customer who should be communicating inwardly.
Before implementing a blogging feature, be aware of where it best fits so you don't unnecessarily take away from developers' resource time.

Business 2.0 :: Online Article :: Media Notes :: The Net's Killer App Keeps Connecting People
Now that even businesspeople have caught on that the Net is more about connecting people than delivering pop-under ads, there's been an explosion in social software, from modest blogging services like Blogger and LiveJournal to elaborate systems like SocialText and Groove.
The website promises that basic service will remain free, but says "some features will require a subscription." Similarly, there are no ads or user charges on Trepia, although its CEO is quoted as saying the company will keep the basic service free but eventually charge for "advanced functions" (the same revenue model that Ryze uses).
Nerve's popular "Instant Gratifier" chat feature is a direct descendant of social software like the instant messaging and chat rooms that America Online (AOL) (the online service owned by AOL Time Warner, also the parent company of Business 2.0) used to vanquish competitors like Prodigy and Compuserve.

Blogs look burly after kicking sand on CBS
Bloggers enjoy a moment of glory after pooling their expertise to uncover the truth about the forged memos on Bush's service record.
Charles Johnson, a blogger in Los Angeles with an expertise in typography, suspected forgery: The documents looked too contemporary.
This has to be proof of either two things, CBS was trying to influence the election or Bloggers are smarter than the MSM, well I guess both are true.

Blogger Charles Johnson (no relation) went one step further, actually reproducing one of the memos in its entirety using Microsoft Word's default settings.

There's a round-up of key facts about the story on this blogger's web site." The experts in the CNS News story and others could come to no conclusion, and even if the documents are not originals or photocopies of originals, that doesn't necessarily mean that they aren't faithfully retyped copies of originals.

 Mark Evans :: Main Page
You wonder why, for example, Blogger has yet to introduce premium services for people who want more than just a simple publishing tool.
These services are flourising on top of two key pillars: the explosive growth of the advertising market (pay-per-click, etc.) and the popularity of broadband access.
One of the more interesting - and lively - discussions during Fall VON was a panel that looked at whether Web-based services such as Skype and Vonage had the freedom to ride over high-speed networks or whether networks operators had the ability to filter/block/restrict traffic to ensure the efficient performance of their networks.

TypePad offers more custom tools than Blogger, such as mixed-media templates, built-in photo uploading and guest accounts.

 Geek TypePad Blog: July 2003
The biggest thing this week is that TypePad is allowing it's beta testers to talk about select features, the so called 5 days of TypePad, and at the end of that we will see a total loosening of the rules for us beta users, with permission to post screen shots and to review the service.
I honestly doubt TypePad, because I see no export pages feature for photo albums, and I prefer to be able to move every part if I need to, in other words if the system becomes like blogger was, I'm off.
Ok, so the word has gone out that there is likely about a week left of the TypePad beta, but first we will have what they are calling the five days of TypePad, where us the beta testers who have used the service can tell you all about the daily selected feature of the service.

Search Engine Journal » Google Explores Video Blogging
There are currently multiple video blogging (or vlog) networks available including SwishVideo, which lets blog owners add flash powered videos to their blog posts, SeriousMagic, which helps bloggers produce almost professional looking video feeds, and VidBlogs.com - a community of video bloggers.
While some video blog storage centers and software developers require fees for their service, Google is bound to devise a way to host video blogging while being reimbursed with Google AdWords revenue.
Adding video blogging to Google’s Blogger will not be a new thing on the web, but would more than likely do for video blogging what Google’s acquisition of Blogger did for blogs.
