Blood, toil, tears, and sweat - Definition, explanation
On 13 May 1940 Winston Churchill made his famous blood, toil, tears, and sweat speech to the House of Commons of the British Parliament, three days after replacing Neville Chamberlain as Prime Minister in the first year of World War II.
Churchill gave the brief speech after calling for a vote of confidence, and with it he explained his government's policies and aims, and started to rally his countrymen to what he knew would be a long and difficult struggle.
The phrase "blood, sweat, and tears" arose as a common misquotation from this speech.

Blood, Sweat & Tears - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Blood, Sweat and Tears was an American music group, formed in New York City in 1967, which fused jazz and rock or pop music into a hybrid of what came to be known as "jazz-rock".
Unlike "jazz fusion" or simply "fusion" (which tended toward virtuostic displays of electronic experimentation and amodal music), Blood, Sweat and Tears' sound was a merging of the varied stylings of rock, pop and RandB/soul music with big band or combo jazz.
Blood, Sweat and Tears, the group's second, self-titled album, was produced by James William Guercio and released in 1969.

I am a long time fan of Churchill's, I have all his books and speeches and I have read the lot, save for the one bad novel he wrote when he was a young man that he himself said he did not encourage his friends to read.
Churchill spoke unapologetically of victory, but I am always struck at how rarely Americans do this, they seemed to be positively embarrassed by the thought of turning their enemies and their execrable ideas into defeated, irrelevant historical trash, let alone saying this openly.
Talking about blood, toil, tears and sweat is not enough -- it wasn't enough for Churchill -- talk but winning and overcoming and how this can be done.
