Blood and Wine Film Review - Time Out Film
Blood and Wine Film Review - Time Out Film
The theft of a $1m diamond necklace from a wine dealer's wealthy client is merely the generic hook for Rafelson's insidious character study, which teams Nicholson's over-reaching vintner with Caine's terminally seedy safe cracker.
As in The Postman Always Rings Twice, the crime itself proves deceptively easy; it's the ensuing complications that expose the subtly shifting alliances, the sly deceptions and the murky motives.

 Blood and Wine
Blood and Wine is a murky attempt at film noir that has a couple of good twists, but overall it wastes its talent.
Jack Nicholson stars as Alex Gates a Miami wine merchant who plots with an old friend, Victor (Michael Caine), to steal a diamond necklace from one of his clients.
Victor is a safecracker, dying of lung disease, who wants one last big score so he can die in luxury.

Sadie Frost pictures, posters, photos, interviews and wallpapers.
Frost's work in "Diamond Skulls" helped her land the role of Lucy Westenra, the flirtatious, upper-crust adventuress turned blood-sucking vampire in Francis Ford Coppola's operatic "Bram Stoker's Dracula" (1992).
Frost, playing a soap star, made her film singing debut with a karaoke rendition of the 1971 hit "When You Are a King".
Sinking her teeth into the vivacious, quirky portrayal of the spooky, tragic vampire victim, Frost won some of the film's best notices, but her compelling performance also helped typecast her as a gothic presence, making it hard for her to find a good follow-up project.

Dean M. Shapiro's Biography on The Crime Library
Shapiro also co-authored the novelization of the critically acclaimed feature film, Belizaire the Cajun, a work of fiction set in the bayous of southern Louisiana in 1859.  The novel, co-written with the film's director, Glen Pitre, was published in hardcover and trade paperback by Pelican Publishing Company in 1988.
Shapiro co-authored The Blood Covenant with Rena Chynoweth, one of the 13 wives of polygamist cult leader Ervil LeBaron.

 Formula 51
From explosive diarrhea to bushels of blood squibs to a screenplay that consists basically of "fuck" and "bollocks," Formula 51 is a meaningless wallow in the stagnant end of the taste pool.
Poorly written, conceived, and executed and featuring a weird Almodovar sex scene and a bit stolen from The Meaning of Life for no discernable reason, Formula 51 is a disappointing throwback to the kind of HK transplant gun-love chop-socky that used to feature people like Dennis Rodman and Lou Diamond Philips.
The possibilities for social commentary, however, swiftly devolve into what is apparently an extremely racist film by a Chinese filmmaker who doesn't particularly care for Yanks and Brits and is content to sketch them in broad and unflattering stereotypes.

 The Big Combo
The confrontations where Diamond and Brown trade threats are the heart of the movie, and the action sequences are the blood that flows from them.
The Big Combo is surprisingly violent for its day, but that's nothing new to the films of Joseph Lewis: after all, his Gun Crazy features a remarkable real-time bank heist that is years ahead of its time and has never been equalled.
In The Big Combo, he is teamed with the great cinematographer John Alton, who made the darkness of film noir sing like no other.

 Edward Zwick
Director Ed Zwick ("Glory") and his frequent writing partner, Marshall Herskovitz, will bring "The Blood Diamond" to the big screen, and they're hoping to rope Leonardo DiCaprio ("The Beach") for the leading role.
Zwick's film will be about the perils facing journalists in war zones; Pearl was a reporter for the Wall Street Journal when he was abducted and killed in Pakistan.
When filmmaker Ed Zwick signed Tom Cruise for the lead role in The Last Samurai, his epic tale of 1870s Japan, it was more than a matter of landing one of the biggest movie...

kamera.co.uk - film review - Millions directed by Director: Danny Boyle
- reviewed by Mark Sells
Millions is a family film - no blood, no walking dead, and no apocalyptic future.
As one of the year's most lovable and family friendly films, Millions is a diamond in the rough.
Danny Boyle's previous films - Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, Shallow Grave, and even The Beach – are defined by their profoundly pessimistic world-view, which makes Millions all the more curious.
