And in the blood red shadows of the jungle, to the frenzied beat of the voodoo drums and the death rattle of the maracas, a mysterious figure with a lithe sensual body and glittering fl eyes begins to dance.
Blood Island is a novel written back in 1981, but while older it deserves its chance in the 20th century spotlight.
Basically a resort has opened on an island that used to be inhabited by tribes who believed in (and some practiced) fl magic of sorts.

The blood factor is kept to knife, bullet and in one instance tiger-trap wounds for the most part (Lorca does get into it with some surgery but it honestly looks too much like he's carving into a beef roast to be effective).
The flesh factor is more minimal than BRIDES OF BLOOD, with Yarnell providing the most provocative of the displays in her near-rape and the later shot-from-behind-the-furniture liaison with Ashley.

Scifilm -- Reviews, THE MAD DOCTOR OF BLOOD ISLAND (1968)
The reasons were obvious: plenty of blood, some flying body parts, and a bit of naked flesh on an extremely low budget, and with two American performers to assure appeal to the US market.
The first fifteen minutes says it all: a stark naked island girl (with a few long and medium-shot full-frontal teases) running through the jungle, with a big, slimy, green beastman hot in pursuit (we're wasting no time getting the monster on screen) and plenty of blood and screams when the two finally rendezvous.
This is as much a history of Hemisphere pictures (continued from the BRIDES OF BLOOD and BLOOD DRINKERS and continued on BEAST OF BLOOD) as it is commentary on the film.

dOc DVD Review: Mad Doctor of Blood Island (1969)
Made as part of Hemisphere Pictures infamous Philippine-made "Blood" films, this 1969 entry from directors Gerardo DeLeon and Eddie Romero (this is really Romero's picture, despite the billing) is generally regarded as one of the better in the series.
The connectivity to the other films in the series is tenuous at best, with Blood Island and the mysterious "Evil One" being the main thread, though as expected, the continuity is a bit loose.
Filmgoers received a vial of "green blood" (colored water), and were instructed to drink it, along with the lily-white group of onscreen "teenagers," as protection from the dreaded Evil One.

The DVD Journal | Quick Reviews: Beast of Blood
This barely cinematic tranquilizer of a horror flick continues the story begun in Mad Doctor of Blood Island, during which, the backstory tells us, the demented Dr. Lorca, holed away on a Pacific island, created a chlorophyll-fueled monster bent on causing great murderous havoc.
However, in Beast of Blood the enjoyably freak-headed title beast is barely seen after an opening-title fistfight, leaving the majority of the movie to dwell on the impossibly dull adventures of a sideburned hero (John Ashley) as he endlessly stalks the jungles of Blood Island in search of Lorca's clandestine laboratory.
Directed by Eddie Romero, Beast of Blood displays none of the tawdry or juvenile imagination that distinguishes good drive-in fare from the also-rans.
