Then there was a track from his album Blood Money on the Uncut sampler “Best of 2002.” Then the Blind Boys of Alabama had Waits join them for “Go Tell It on the Mountain,” the title track of the 2003 Christmas album.
I looked at my current categories, scanning them while listening to the album.
I jumped back and forth from Jazz-influence Rock (for his use of horns, sort of scat singing, and jazzy/bluesy rhythms) and American Folk (because Waits really is a singer/songwriter telling us his stories).

This is no crack back-up band as some have said---while the drummer wasn't the best, and would be replaced by the Hard Rockin' Corky Laing on the first true Mountain album, 1970s 'Climbing!'---the bass player is one to listen to: none other than Felix himself!
The fact is, ONLY Mountain sounded like that...They were clearly one of the great American Hard Rock bands of that era (as were Grand Funk Railroad, though constantly maligned by the press), and could be outstanding Live on a good night.
I saw Mountain at the Fillmore in San Francisco back in "69" on their first west coast tour and I could not believe it, they were great!

White Stripes' big rock candy mountain / Detroit duo let loose with glorious racket at sold-out Warfield
Since moving to the forefront of rock culture with their breakthrough 2001 album, "White Blood Cells," vocalist-guitarist Jack and drummer-vocalist Meg have managed to grow with their fame without becoming bloated.
Rock music has come to resemble a candy cane since Detroit's famous duo released its stunning fourth album, "Elephant," on April 1.
Monday's concert showed that they remain the same rough, minimalist outfit they've been since the late '90s while learning how to fill larger spaces with a sound that defies their spare lineup.

The Blood Brothers: Burn Piano Island, Burn (2003): Reviews
The album's clever turns don't take away from The Blood Brothers as a ravaging hardcore band; instead, they enlist chops in service of a manic vision all the more insinuating for its brutality.
Burn, Piano Island, Burn is an album that must first be listened to twice: once to wrap your head around its peerless vigor and skull-rattling force, and again to revel in its restless creativity.
Burn, Piano Island, Burn balances so perfectly between commercial appeal and untainted creativity that it's as if the band have been digitally inserted atop a mountain no man could conceivably climb.

THE METAL OBSERVER - Review - BATHORY - Twilight Of The Gods
The songs themselves also are better, mammoth-tracks like "Twilight Of The Gods" or "Blood And Iron" or the acoustically ennobled "To Enter Your Mountain" in my opinion even today are still classics of this style, while the highlight, similar to "Hammerheart" is hidden at the very end of the album, bearing just that title, "Hammerheart".
"Twilight Of The Gods" basically is the sequel to the "Hammerheart"-album, an evolution of the epic/slow-paced Viking Metal that master Quorthon had created back then.
Even though some have a completely different opinion on this album, I still deem "Twilight Of The Gods" the crown of the creative achievements of BATHORY and everybody, who claims to be a fan of this style just has to have this album!

Burn, Piano Island, Burn balances so perfectly between commercial appeal and untainted creativity that it's as if the band have been digitally inserted atop a mountain no man can conceivably climb.
While the album's title track begins in even more overtly reptilian territory (borrowing from "Killer McHann"), it's also more controlled than its spastic predecessor, slowing things down to a follow-along pace, and showcasing the almost feminine, metallic squeal that dominates the record and draws Korn and Melt-Banana fans in equal number.
Burn, Piano Island, Burn devours illusion, and unites clashing factions by reducing them to powerless spectators: The pretentious and the preening look pretty much the same with their jaws on the floor.
