 Blood Oath Information
With the release of the Region 4 (Australia) Blood Oath DVD in April of 2002, I began to understand what I hadn't before and I soon developed a personal connection to this film and the history it teaches.
Strictly speaking Blood Oath isn't a Russell Crowe movie but it is important to his fans because it was his first feature film.
With Proof being released in November, Blood Oath becomes the only film featuring Russell which has not been given a Region 1 (North America) or region free release.

 Assault on Precinct 13 - Movie Review - HorrorExpress.com
In Carpenter's film, the killers were a group of silent psychopaths who made an odd blood oath before going on a murder spree.
It was the type of film that intentionally blurred all questions of race of allegiance and stuck to the classic model that Carpenter would continue to hone in later action-inspired films like ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, VAMPIRES and GHOSTS OF MARS.
All previous filmed versions had white actors in blackface.

In Carpenter's original the precinct was under siege by a crazed army of gang members who had swore a blood oath to fight to the death.
It's always amazing how Hollywood can take a popular film that cost very little by today's standards, remake the story with tens of millions of dollars and still fail to get it right.
John Carpenter's "Assault on Precinct 13" was a $100,000 exploitation action picture that had a low budget feel and unknown cast, but the director showcased his superb skill and ability to build dramatic tension with little resources.
