Kumite (tournament) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The character was, in turn, based on a real person named Frank Dux, who claimed to have been a CIA operative, and to have participated in a real Kumite tournament.
Another Kumite-based film starring Van Damme, to be titled either Kumite or Bloodsport: A New Beginning, is tentatively scheduled for release in 2007.
In that film, each fighter represented a country (although one fighter represented Africa as a whole); Van Damme represented the United States, and won the tournament by defeating the "evil" fighter from Mongolia.

Bloodsport established Van Damme as a bankable action star and it was also one of the best martial arts films shot in the era of Rocky and Schwarzenegger.
film through numerous kung fu classics and easily stood out from the masses thanks to his unusually well-muscled physique which was not the norm in the ‘70s.
Though Bloodsport ends with a loving tribute to Frank Dux and his accomplishments, the film should not be taken too seriously on any level, especially when his action choreography is neither as realistic or as gripping as it could have been.

Bloodsport 2 does not have the classic feel that Bloodsport has, nor does Daniel Bernhardt fill Van Damme's shoes, and the villain Demon (played by Ong Soon Han) does not come close to the on-screen presence of Bolo Yeung.
The story to Bloodsport 2 is nothing to write home about, but as far as fights, the beginning to the end of his film has nothing but continuous fights (both in and out of the tournament).

Bloodsport is based on the true story of Frank Dux (Jean-Claude Van Damme, Street Fighter), the first Westerner ever to win the Kumite.
What makes Bloodsport stand out from most other films in the martial arts genre is that it is based on a true story, that of Frank Dux (as in “dukes”), the first Westerner ever to win the Kumite (pronounced koo-mee-tay).
At the time Bloodsport was filmed, Van Damme was not yet the “big name” he would later become, and it shows in the fact that he seems more relaxed in this performance than in many of his later roles, as well as less self-absorbed.

K-1 Forum - From Kumite back to Bloodsport:JCVD to do it again
Van Damme's movie Kumite has been scrapped for Bloodsport II, Yes t there already have been sequels to BLOODSPORT, entitled BLOODSPORT 2-4, but they aren't regarded as "actual sequels" to the original, which is what the Van Damme camp probably meant when they said that they would be looking to shoot a sequel.
First of all, the official title is "Bloodsport: New Beginning." Although JCVD likes to refer to it as "B2".
It's not a "Tournament" film from start to finish, like the first "Bloodsport" was, but there WILL be fights -- Martial Arts fights and brutal street fights -- lots of them, throughout the film.

There is often a cult film admiration of a certain director's films or series of director's films such as John Woo's Hong Kong action pieces, or in the case of Pulp Fiction, director Quentin Tarantino's dialogue-driven pieces.
Cult films are usually strange, quirky, offbeat, eccentric, oddball, or surreal, with outrageous and cartoony characters or plots, garish sets and they are often considered controversial." Certainly each person will debate the merits of why some films are cult, often including something that made a connection to the movie viewer's emotions watching the film.
I began with the question "what is a cult film?" After suggesting what is not a cult film, and defining different categories and scenes of so-called cult films, the question still remains unanswered.
