Bloomfield made a visit in 1797 in recognition of the honor done him in giving his name to the town, was publicly welcomed by the people, and contributed one hundred and forty dollars to help on the building.

The village of Bloomfield was surveyed and platted April 18, 1845, the surveyor being Thomas C. Hickman, and the projectors and proprietors Elizur Loveland and Alexander Marvin.

   BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP -- A band of township residents is on a quest to preserve their heavenly slice of suburbia, where strip malls are few, commercial buildings are never more than 32 feet high and sprawling homes line the major roads.
Township officials say Schubiner failed to follow through on a negotiated deal that would have allowed him to build a five-story centerpiece building with four-story buildings around it.
   Eleanor Whitson, a 45-year township resident and group member, said she feels like the land was stolen from Bloomfield Township and it's only right that all residents get a chance to vote on the matter.

After two years of searching for the perfect site, Sunrise Development Inc. has chosen Bloomfield Township as the new home for a senior assisted living facility that will be situated on the west side of Telegraph Road.
When the need for a senior assisted living facility in Bloomfield Township surfaced in August of 2000, Sunrise chose an area that did not meet the township's zoning and land use requirements, Payne said.
"This is a great thing on part of the township's leadership to embrace the fact that this is an aging community and show support for senior citizens," said Christine Tvaroha, supervisor of the Greater Bloomfield Township Community Senior Association.

After Bloomfield Township trustees gave up last year trying to stop a $1-billion hotel-shopping center-condo project on 70 acres of township land, only one official voted against it.
Township Clerk Wilma Cotton was so bitter about the deal her fellow trustees cut last November with developer Craig Schubiner and the City of Pontiac that she "wanted to lay down in front of the bulldozers," quipped Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson, a staunch supporter of Schubiner's project.
