	History of Bloomfield, Pa.
		BLOOMFIELD was organized from the territory of Oil Creek Township early in 1811, first appearing on record in May of that year.
		The township lies on the northern confines of the county, and is bounded on the west by Rockdale, on the south by Athens, and on the east by Sparta.
		She was the first white woman in the township, and after a residence here of about thirty-five years removed with her husband to the West.

		The township of Acquackanonck lies on the north, Belleville and Newark on the east, Newark and Orange on the south, and Montclair on the west.
		The Bloomfield Church became the Third Presbyterian Church of Newark; the congregation organized in 1794, the civil society in 1796 and the ecclesiastical body in 1798.
		Bloomfield made a visit in 1797 in recognition of the honor done him in giving his name to the town, was publicly welcomed by the people, and contributed one hundred and forty dollars to help on the building.

		In Bloomfield, the JFK Parkway mostly follows the old Canal route.
		It is very likely that 'Beach' Street in Bloomfield, just one block from where the Canal ran, was named for him, solving a local mystery since the adjacent streets, like 'Elm', are named after trees, while that street is not named 'Beech', but rather 'Beach'.
		Bloomfield was one of these, a major stop, due to it's 'Lock' and long inclined plane that pulled boats up the hill, or lowered them, all in massive wooden cradles that held the boats and moved along rails that spanned the incline.
