Blooming Grove, also known as Gradyville, is on State Highway 22 and Farm Road 55 fifteen miles west of Corsicana in northwestern Navarro County.
Central Texas College, a junior college, was opened at Blooming Grove under the auspices of the Corsicana Methodist Conference in 1902 but closed in 1912 because of mismanagement.
By 1900 Blooming Grove was a shipping and trade center for the surrounding area and depended mainly on agriculture for its economy.

Much of the early history of the efforts of the D/deaf in Texas to become organized is scanty, legendary or unknown at this stage.
After organizing there in 1886, five other conventions were held among 1886 and 1898: in Corsicana in 1889, again in Blooming Grove in the year 1891 and 1892, and twice in Waco in the years of 1896 and 1871.
In 1932, the Texas Association of the Deaf was chartered under the laws of Texas as a corporate body.

Nearby, settlers grouped around a general store and in 1871 citizens voted on a name for their community - settling on Blooming Grove, named after Blooming Grove, Illinois, the hometown of popular resident and Doctor John Davis.
When the St. Louis Southwestern Railway arrived around 1881, the town moved a mile to be on the rail line and Blooming Grove merged with White Church community.
From a population of 200 in 1884, it quadrupled to 800 in six short years.
