Birds of the parrot family can be found in most of the warm parts of the world, including India, South East Asia and West Africa, with one species, now extinct, in the United States (the Carolina Parakeet).
All parrots are zygodactyl, having the four toes on each foot placed two at the front and two back.
Confusingly, the term "parrot" can be used in either the narrow sense of the parrot family Psittacidae or the broad sense of the order Psittaciformes.

 Nest sites of Wild Parrots
Members of this group that includes the Grey-cheeked, White-winged and Orange-chinned Parakeets are known to excavate nest in termite mounds, palm leaves, rotting trees and they can also use naturally occuring tree cavities.
The fiberous mass is just the right consistency for Yellow-chevroned (aka Canary-winged Brotogeris chiriri) and White-winged Parakeets (B. versicolurus) and the strong trunk of the living plam helps ensure that the entire structure remains in place until the young safely fledge.
Most of the species that nest in termite mounds are small like the Grey-cheeked Parakeets ( Brotogeris pyrrhopterus), Green-rumped Parrotlet ( Forpus paserinus), and Orange-fronted Conure ( Aratinga canicularis) and the Hooded Parrot ( Psephotus dissimilis).

As we headed our separate ways, we were all invigorated by this Burmese birding experience.
Pushing on towards our night stop near Kazunma, we found four delightful White-bellied Minivets by the road, surely not the same species as the one in India, and this taxon can surely be added to the growing list of Burmese endemics.
Our lodgings at Mindat were the most spartan of the tour, yet we were admirably catered for by Tony?s team of cooks and helpers, another part of their excellently organised operation.

Birdwatching Trip Report from Northeast India
The parade of birds was impressive and amongst the many birds seen were Lesser Adjutant, Brahminy Kite, Short-toed Eagle, River Lapwing, Blossom-headed Parakeet, Green-billed Malkoha, Blue-bearded Bee-eater, Bengal Bushlark, Oriental Skylark, Large Cuckoo-shrike, Yellow-bellied and Ashy Prinia, Striated Grassbird, Velvet-fronted Nuthatch and Black-hooded Oriole.
After breakfast we headed by open-topped jeep and an armed guard to the little-visited eastern range of Kaziranga, probably the most attractive area of the reserve and certainly the most productive for birding.
After breakfast we made another stroll in the marshy area between the railway and the golf-course and most noteworthy of the birds seen were Pintail Snipe, Besra, both Black-breasted and Dusky Thrush, Dark-throated Thrush and a group of Grey-breasted Prinias, the last addition to our birdlist.

Several Barred Buttonquails scurrying along the track were nice, and Blossom-headed Parakeet, Alexandrine Parakeet and Pied Cuckoo were very smart birds.

Finally, an after-dark return trip to the Frogmouth site gave excellent views of this interesting bird.
