What is today Blount County was for many thousands of years Indian territory, passed down to the Cherokee tribe that claimed the land upon the arrival of white settlers in the late 18th century.

Early in 1988, responding to the needs expressed by the Blount County community, a 5-year lease agreement was negotiated with Blount County schools for the college to share the former Union Elementary School building with the Blount County Girls Club and to use it as a comprehensive teaching site for day and evening classes.
In October, when the Levi's plant in Blount County closed, employees were laid off with little warning, and the college responded quickly with some non-credit training programs and GED preparation courses.

Students residing in the Blount County School District applying for admission to school as a transfer student from a church school, private school, non-accredited home school, or from a tutor are subject to being evaluated by means of tests administered by the principal of the school to determine proper grade placement.
No out of county transfer shall be enrolled in a Blount County School for the current year if he is no longer in good standing at the school from which he wishes to transfer.
