The Man Who Sold the Moon (short story collection) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Man Who Sold the Moon was the title of two anthologies of science fiction short stories by Robert A. Heinlein.
The first one, published in 1953, included the stories "Life-Line", "Let There Be Light", "The Roads Must Roll", "Blowups Happen", "The Man Who Sold the Moon", and "Requiem".
The second anthology included only four of those stories, omitting "Life-Line" and "Blowups Happen." Both anthologies included a Heinlein timeline for his stories, characters, and events, and the first had an introduction by John W. Campbell, Jr.

Even if the county decided to build terraces, drainpipes, and retaining walls to attempt such a fix, it may not be in its jurisdiction to do so; the land technically belongs to La Conchita Ranch, making the issue a private property dispute between the sole landowner above the slide and numerous landowners beneath it.
If so, the potential cost of those lawsuits far outweighs the estimated $30 million it would cost to fix the hill now, a price that would hardly be offset by real estate taxes on less than 200 homes now only worth $300,000 or less.

While Heinlein never claimed to be predicting the future, he did watch closely trends and current events and interpolated them into his stories.
So well that such stories as "Blowups Happen" and "The Roads Must Roll" remain as viable and pointed today as when written in the late thirties.
The terminus of the "Future History" stories was Heinlein's first novel, Methuselah's Children, starring the first of many memorable characters, Lazarus Long.
