Third Eye Blind, led by pretty boy Stephan Jenkins, once again perpetuates the cookie-cutter "alternative-rock" vibe that has saturated the airwaves since the early '90s on their sophomore release, Blue (as if their self-titled debut wasn't enough already).
The quadruple-platinum success of Third Eye Blind (remember "Semi-charmed Life?") brings a certain pressure to repeat, and with the way things are going in the music industry these days, a plethora of teens will snatch up Blue the first chance they get.
The remainder of Blue's songs are very reminiscent of their last album, with a few radio-ready tracks that will spin the record into the mainstream (i.e.

The recording techniques and extreme caution they took to record the exact guitar sounds, levels, panning, and so on, are beyond incredible compared to every other modern rock album out there (even compared with their other two cds).

To make a long story short, prepare to focus some serious listening to time to "Blue." While it requires more time and involvement to experience, the album will ultimately satisfy the listener in ways the debut never could.
I'm giving "Blue" four stars initially, with a fifth added after the album is experienced.

If you have the Blue CD by Third Eye Blind, the reprise to "The Red Summer Sun" and the 'goofy laughter' is actually at the end of "Slow Motion" (track 13) and it comes on within seconds of the song ending (you will hear it at about 4:40).

The planets quickly realign themselves though as the remaining 12 tracks on Blue range from the predictably bland to laughably terrible.
The SF-based band won the hearts of brain-dead millions when singles like "Semi-Charmed Life" and "Graduate," managed to sum up everything that was wrong with modern-rock in three-and-a-half minutes, and a couple of the tracks here ("Wounded," "Never Let You Go") seem content to return to that winning formula.

My opinion hasn't changed, but it should be noted that the so-called "clean version" contains all the same lyrics (with the exception of "Slow Motion", on which the chorus is thrown out with the rest) as the main one that Amazon sells.
Such as it is, the foul language and subtle sexual themes that pervade "Blue" make any version of it a none-too-family-friendly choice.

The second attempt from American rockers Third Eye Blind is an album of full on balls out rock music mixed with emotionally available lyrics.
Their can be no doubt that this album is not quite up to the standards set by 'Semi-Charmed-Life', the bands debut effort, but even so, with songs like '10 Days Late', 'Deep Inside Of You' and the album finale 'Darwin' this is still an album that every music lover should own.
Third Eye Blind are, at the moment, pretty much ignored in England but have found huge success in America, personally I am hoping this will soon change.
