  Chicago Blue Line "L"
The Chicago Transit Authority's Blue Line "L" runs from O'Hare Airport in the northwest, through downtown Chicago, then to the west via two branches, Forest Park and Cermak (Douglas).
[picture] Between the Division and Damen stations, the Blue Line leaves the subway and runs on an elevated structure (parallel to Milwaukee Avenue) that was built as the Logan Square branch of the Metropolitan West Side Elevated Railroad in 1895.
[picture #2] After the second subway, the Blue Line runs in the median of the Kennedy Expressway for the rest of its route to O'Hare Airport.

The Blue Line and Red Line are the only two lines in the CTA system to run 24 hours a day, with the exception being the Douglas Branch, which operates between 4 a.m.
The Blue Line was formerly called the West-Northwest route or more commonly, the O'Hare-Congress/Douglas route for its three branches.
The rapid transit line follows the Kennedy east through Rosemont then tunnels beneath the Kennedy Expressway/Northwest Tollway interchange near the Des Plaines River and continues in the median of the Kennedy Expressway (now Interstate 90) east and southeast towards the city to another subway portal just south of Addison Street.

The Orange Line, also called the Midway Line, is a heavy rail line in Chicago, Illinois run by the Chicago Transit Authority as part of the 'L' system.
The line continues on embankment to Ashland Avenue where it crosses the South Fork of the South Branch of the Chicago River.
The Orange Line was opened on October 31, 1993, and was the first all-new rapid transit service in Chicago since the Dan Ryan Line opened in September 1969, and the first extension to the CTA system since the O'Hare Airport Extension of the Blue Line in September 1984.

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) is studying new rail service -- tentatively called the Silver Line -- linking the Blue and Green Lines in neighborhoods near downtown and forming the first piece of the ambitious Circle Line concept, according to this report by Jon Hilkevitch published by the Chicago Tribune.
But residents of the West Side who have long sought better transit in their communities say they fear that the proposed Silver Line would prompt further service reductions on the Cermak branch of the Blue Line, where train schedules were cut in 1997 and have not been restored.
Members of the Blue Line Transit Task Force were expected to renew their call at Monday's City Council committee meeting for the CTA to immediately restore 24-hour, seven-day service on the Cermak branch.
