America on the Move | Porter's wool blanket dyed blue
According to Pullman service rules, a porter’s blanket was never to be given to a passenger.
Part of a Pullman porter’s job was to make up the sleeping berths in his assigned sleeping car, and to provide extra blankets to those passengers requesting them.
The standard Pullman wool blanket in the 20th century was dyed a salmon color, which became almost a trademark of the company.

Where Worlds Collide: Book Review: Kevin Robertson - Blue Pullman   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-16)
With their distinctive Nanking Blue livery, the Blue Pullmans were an iconic train from the early 1960s.
Robertson implies that the livery change in the late sixties that saw the Nanking Blue replaced by reversed BR blue/grey (the so called "Silver Pullman") marked the beginning of the end.
He does however recognise that the Blue Pullman, despite the technical failings that contributed towards their downfall, proved the concept of the fixed-formation multiple unit for inter-city services, now the predominant form of train on today's railway.

 Midland Pullman
The striking livery of Nanking Blue was relieved by a broad band of white extending the length and width of the windowed section along the side of each car.
The contrast between this modern train and the infrastructure of the railway is emphasised by the gas lamp and Midland lower quadrant signal.
After its initial success the Midland Pullman suffered a loss of custom after the West Coast services were accelerated with the introduction of through electric trains from Euston to Manchester Piccadilly and after 1967 the six car sets joined their stable mates on the Western Region.

Painted in an attractive all-over monstral blue, the traditional ‘Pullman’ lettering was applied to each coach under the first window, as a reminder of the earlier steam service of similar calibre.
The HST concept was derived from the earlier ‘Blue Pullman’ 90mph trainset of 1959 which featured aerodynamic power cars at both ends, somewhat similar to the modern push-pull express concept.
Even though the Metro-Cammell/North British ‘Blue Pullman’ themselves were not hugely successful in transforming the rail travel experience due to their frequent failures, the HST was one of BR’s greatest success stories, transforming InterCity services into the fastest diesel-powered routes in the world.
