Martin is back and bigger than ever in the blockbuster hit film Wild Hogs, and prior to that, Martin voiced a character in the popular animated film Open Season.
This film shed light on Martin's roots, his rise to fame and his walk on the wild side.
Blue Streak 2 is rumoured to be in pre-production stages, and may be in cinemas sometime in 2005.

While "Blue Streak" is hardly a high point for this particular genre, motor mouth comedian Martin Lawrence is a perfect fit in the role of the criminal turned detective who must fast-talk his way through one strange situation after another.
While the premise of "Blue Streak" may be a tad far fetched, the film manages to keep moving with equal doses of action and comedy.
However, all the elements in place and disbelief successfully suspended, "Blue Streak" is a rather fun, action-packed film perfect for those who need to be slowly weaned off of summer blockbusters before the more subtle fall and winter lineups settle in.

Films deemed too bad or too unlikely to make any money would be shuffled off to the late summer month to die quick deaths.
The latest film to successfully do just that is "Blue Streak," a crook-turned-cop comedy that inhabits both the "Rush Hour" school of hip and the "Lethal Weapon" school of action competence.
"Blue Streak" is a very derivative film, but the competence with which the action is played on screen is commendable, as is the winsome performance of Lawrence.

Martin Lawrence can certainly talk a blue streak (witness his concert film, You So Crazy), but he tones it down to PG-13 for this by-the-book action comedy.
There is little in Blue that is remotely fresh, but Lawrence fans, who watched him play it straight opposite Murphy in Life, will relish the opportunity to see him get down with his bad self.
"Blue Streak" was a great way for Martin to slip in to different characters, as he does flawlessly.

Martin Lawrence was born to star in movies like "Blue Streak," a film with much energy and wit, both elements he has coming out of his ears.
The film opens with four jewel thieves, Miles Logan, Deacon, Eddie, and Tulley, constructing a heist in the middle of a dark, cold night attempting to steal a large diamond worth millions.
From here on out, the film runs from high energy and action packed excitement to clumsy and funny stunts of Logan trying to undercover the dream he once had located in what is now his office building.

Blue Streak appears to be Martin Lawrence's attempt at a Beverly Hills Cop - and it's not a particularly effective one.
The film relies heavily on Martin Lawrence for its success, but the actor is unable to deliver convincingly.
Towards the beginning, it briefly seems as if Blue Streak intends to do something with the premise of the crook who unwittingly becomes revered as a top cop, but that aspect is quickly relegated to background noise.

 Lawrence's performance saves 'Streak'
The film fails to be funny at times by concentrating too much on the action, and the third act fails to deliver as much humor as the rest of the film, because instead it focuses on resolving the conflicts of what passes for a plot these days.
Sometimes Lawrence gets too energetic, (or maybe the film is desperate for a laugh) and starts jumping, dancing, and screaming, which is annoying rather than funny.
"Blue Streak" has its flaws, but will be more enjoyable if you don't take it seriously and allow Lawrence to draw you into his energetic performance, however foolish it gets.

The Buzz   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
The success of Martin Lawrence's new film "Blue Streak" proved that audiences were ready for a laugh after being saturated by the likes of "Stigmata" and "The Sixth Sense." "Blue Streak" topped the box office with $19.2 million, beating out Kevin Costner's "For Love of the Game," which brought in $14 million.
The surprise of the weekend came with the success of "American Beauty." While the film was only shown on 16 screens nationwide, it took the 11th spot with $851,000, averaging $52,000 per screen, as opposed to "Blue Streak," which only took in $7,000 per screen.
The film, which stars Nicolas Cage as an out-of-control ambulance driver, was apparently too dark and disturbing for Weinraub who was reported as saying, "Do we really need this?" and then walked out of the theater.

Blue Streak, directed by Les Mayfield, reminded me a little of the extremely disturbing Austrian film, Funny Games, reviewed here last year, in that it leads us up the garden path of cinematic convention, then whirls around and cries: “Only kidding!” Nothing is what we thought it was.
If this film had been made in the 1950s, Miles's new-found respect for law-enforcement would have been brought to a crisis in which he had to choose between the diamond, and with it his old career as a thief, and his new friends and colleagues on the force and the respectability they represent.
The film sets us up to expect it and then has Miles, diamond firmly in hand, clicking his heels as he dances over the Mexican border to riches and comfort on the proceeds of his ill-gotten gains.

JoBlo reviews the movie "Blue Streak"
That's not a bad thing, for a little part, because the film's director, Mayfield, was going for a cleaner, gentler film because it was selling on its actors comedic talents, not his action star glory.
Blue Streak is meant to entertain for laughs, and it succeeds.
This film is a step up from some of his previous films, such as “Bad Boys” and “Nothing to Lose.” The plot is rather formulaic: a jewel thief hides a diamond in a construction building, goes to jail, finds the building is now a police station and impersonates a detective to get the diamond back.

It sure needed something because, as is, the film has only one story (with absolutely no subplots), and is utterly empty and unsatisfying because of this.
A comedy without the laughs, and an action film with a non-existent level of excitement, "Blue Streak" is an obvious and misguided effort, with an inauspicious directing job by Les Mayfield.
No technical attributes are worth mentioning either, as everything about the film, right down to the smallest detail, is nearly as cliched as a "Friday the 13th" movie, and as forgettable as an early-afternoon dream.

Blue Streak (1999): Martin Lawrence, Luke Wilson, David Chappelle, Peter Greene - PopMatters Film Review
So it was a little unnerving to hear — just a week before Lawrence's latest major studio release, Blue Streak, was set to open — that he had collapsed into a coma while jogging in LA during a monster heat wave.
At first glance, the episode seemed another instance of Lawrence's infamous lack of moderation (and was reported as such on TV tabloid shows): it was another stupid move by Lawrence, who was picked up last year by L.A. cops, while carrying drugs and a gun.
This technique doesn't really allow the film to rise above its generic conventions, however: Miles is a cop or a criminal, he's silly or serious, he's resisting or conforming.

And though Lawrence is dependably good in both the action and the comedy sequences in Blue Streak, there is very little here for him to sink his teeth into.
He logically decides to pose as a cop to gain entry but before he discovers his waylaid gem, he inadvertently foils a couple a crimes just like a real cop.
If the mediocrity of Blue Streak weren't depressing enough, the concluding morality of the final scene, which suggests that crime does pay, seems an appropriate metaphor for this movie's huge success at the box office.

Blue Streak provides Martin with his first leading role, and unfortunately, the movie as directed by Les Mayfield (Flubber, Encino Man) and scripted jointly by Michael Berry and John Blumental is quite forgetable.

September 20, 1999 -- "Blue Streak" is a film that defies common sense and logic, but is a lot of fun to watch because of its main character, Miles Logan (Martin Lawrence of "Life").
The parallels between this film and "Beverly Hills Cop" are fairly obvious, starting with Logan's police partner, (Luke Wilson of "Bottle Rocket") who looks and acts a lot like Judge Reinhold, Eddie Murphy's police partner in "Beverly Hills Cop." Also Logan's experience as a burglar makes him very well suited for solving burglary cases.
As noted earlier, there are some logical problems with the plot and some lapses in continuity (for instance, who put the diamond into a sack while it was supposedly hidden in the ventilation duct?) but overall, it is an enjoyable end-of-summer film.
