 Hockey Terms
For the team attacking the goal, the area between the blue line and the goal line is the attacking zone.
For the team defending the goal, the area between the goal line and the blue line is the defensive zone - for the opponents it is the attacking zone.
Icing is waved-off if the team icing the puck is shorthanded or a player from the defending team could have played the puck before it crossed the goal line or if a player of the icing team plays the puck before it crosses the goal line.

The pass is received by a teammate on the far edge of the blue line (half on the line and half in the Neutral Zone), and then is shot on goal.
A player in possession and control of the puck is permitted to precede the puck across his attacking blue line, but once the puck has initially crossed the blue line, this exception to the rule expires and the player may not continue to violate the basic off-side rule.
Had the puck crossed the blue line into the Neutral Zone before it left the rink, the delayed off-side would have been nullified and the face-off would have been held in the end zone at the point from which the puck was shot, within the confines of the face-off rule.
