Blues ballad - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The blues ballad synthesizes blues feeling and attitudes (using the blues scale and chord progressions) with the conventional 32-bar popular song from Tin Pan Alley.
Blues ballads have the 32-bar A-A-B-A form of verse-verse-bridge-verse, while blues songs have the 12-bar A-A-B form or its 8-bar A-B variant.
Both blues and blues ballads rely on the mainstay three chords and the blues scale.

Odetta, sings ballads and blues   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
This glorious re-release of her seminal 1956 album, Sings Ballads and Blues shows just how good and how relevant she was.
The material ranges from deep spirituals and gospel to old ballads of European origin, from the Delta blues to Jimmie Rodgers' country blues, from work songs to calypso.
Ballads and Blues reveals Odetta's influence on the second generation of folk singers, particularly Joan Baez (in choice of material and approach to singing it) and Bob Dylan (in the recognition of the blues as a timeless and boundaryless folk art form).

CD Baby: BROOKS WILLIAMS: Blues and Ballads - from jkloss
Never has this been more apparent than on Williams’ latest recording, Blues And Ballads, which is a collection of country blues and traditional roots music that features Williams on acoustic, bottleneck slide and resonator guitars, mandolin, and vocals, and John Daniel, from the band Northern Lights, on acoustic bass.
Among the songs featured on Blues And Ballads are classic blues standards from Big Bill Broonzy, Lightning Hopkins, Robert Johnson, Blind Boy Fuller, and Snooks Eaglin, a blues-jazz version of Ellington's Don’t Get Around Much Any More, and a few folk classics like Shady Grove and Watch The Stars.
Brooks Williams' music rocks like the blues, swings like jazz, and, as the Boston Globe describes, has “a captivating lyricism” and “a clear melodicism.” Audiences routinely react to his concerts by asking: “Where’d they hide the second guitarist?” Such is the mind-boggling artistry of this wonderful performer: no one does it like Brooks Williams!

MSJ - Gary Moore - Old New Ballads Blues
The disc is well titled because Moore includes both old tracks and new, and both ballads and blues - although really most of the ballads are also blues.
This may be a classic blues cut, but the wahing guitar sound on this one lends a rather Hendrix-like texture to this one.
While this ballad is pretty, to me it just doesn't hold up to a lot of the other material here.

Best of Ballads & Blues - Poison - Music Reviews
Best of Ballads & Blues is a clever idea, however, since it isolates the group's power ballads and midtempo numbers for all those former hair-teased honeys now driving mini-vans with baby seats in the back.
The ballad hits are here, "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," "Something to Believe In," and "Life Goes On" (all right up at the beginning of the disc), plus previously unreleased acoustic versions of "Something to Believe In" and the late chart entry "Stand" at the end.
Those are the songs that used to set an arena's worth of cigarette lighters aflame and aloft (and continue to on the band's reunion tours).

Ballads and Blues - The Mastersounds - Song Listings
For a few years in the late 1950s, the Mastersounds were a popular band.
Consisting of vibraphonist Buddy Montgomery, electric bassist Monk Montgomery, pianist Richie Crabtree and drummer Benny Barth, the group was essentially an easy-listening and less classical-oriented version of the Modern Jazz Quartet.
On this out-of-print LP, the band performs a "Blues Medley" (which includes among its three songs numbers by Milt Jackson and John Lewis), three originals, "Solar," "How Deep is the Ocean," "Mint Julep," and Dizzy Gillespie's "The Champ." The music is quite accessible, if now difficult to find.

Ballads & Blues by Miles Davis CD
BALLADS & BLUES compiles ballads and slow blues that Miles Davis recorded for Capitol and Blue Note between 1950 and 1958.
Compiled from Davis' famous BIRTH OF THE COOL recording sessions, as well as three mid-1950's Blue Note sessions and the 1958 SOMETHIN' ELSE session with Cannonball Adderly, BALLADS & BLUES illustrates the fresh new sound Davis was moving on to around the time bebop was coming to an end.
These songs are pulled out of context (they were originally grouped with more up-tempo bebop tunes) to illustrate their newness as well as Davis' developing artistry on his trumpet.

CD Review of Joey DeFrancesco - Ballads and Blues on Concord Records @ jazzreview.com
Once DeFrancesco locked in his trio consisting of Paul Bollenback and Byron Landham, he realized that these were the musicians who understood the sound he sought and the fun in performing that he felt.
On “Jammin’ In The Basement,” he invites his father, John, and his brother, John, to join him in a rocking blues, which is really an excuse to revel in paternal and fraternal improvisations.
Nonetheless, Ballads And Blues makes clear that this is the most joyous recording that DeFrancesco has done in a while.

Rambles: Odetta Sings Ballads & Blues   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
Other vocalists of her range and talent have become gospel singers or blues shouters, but Odetta chose her own course, and everyone who has heard her is better for it.
The one pure blues, "Muleskinner Blues," is from the white country singer Jimmie Rodgers, though Rodgers, who had little interest in composing songs, probably picked this one up from some itinerant fl songster in his native Mississippi and simply claimed the copyright.
In any event, now is the time to stop reading and to do whatever you must to add this CD to your collection as soon as circumstances allow, and not a moment longer.

ODETTA SINGS BALLADS AND BLUES sounds as remarkable today as it did upon its first release in 1956, as if Paul Robeson, Bessie Smith, and Leadbelly had combined into one voice.
Singing in a pure yet husky, classically trained voice, accompanying herself on simple but never simplistic acoustic guitar, Odetta was a major force in the collegiate folk and blues revival of the '50s.
Unfortunately, she became so thoroughly identified with that audience that her work has sometimes been dismissed, or merely forgotten, in the decades since.

Gary Moore's studio album Old New Ballads Blues continues his exploration of the blues through a combination of classic blues tracks written by the likes of Otis Rush and Willie Dixon and self-penned songs.
The versions of Midnight Blues and All your Love dont really add much to the originals, but that aside this is probably the closest Moore has got to the sound and spirit of Still Got the Blues.
The 2 weakest songs on the album for me are the 2006 re-works which do not appear to be that different with 'All your love' being slowed down and midnight blues almost the same as the original.Perhaps this shows the quality of the album.
