 Blyth - A Visitors Guide
Situated on the south side of the river Blyth and divided by the A193 coastal road, and close by the A189 to the west.
It is claimed that one of the first horse-drawn railway lines was developed in the early 17th century, for the transport of coal from Beside colliery to the riverside, nearby Bedlington Iron Works made the first iron rails for the railway.
For many decades the town was instantly recognisable from a distance by the huge Blyth coal powered Power Station, however the station came to the end of its life and closed at the end of January 2002, and is now in the process of demolition.

Settled in the 1850s by mostly British stock, the village grew as a service centre for the surrounding rich countryside and as a junction point of two railways, the Butter and Eggs of the Grand Trunk, north from London to Wingham and the Goderich-Guelph CPR line moving east west.
The Blyth Greenway Trail follows the old CPR line from Queen St. (Highway 4) to ãthe archä where the Butter and Eggs once passed over the CPR.
Blyth also hosts several major annual events topped off by the Huron Pioneer Hobby and Thresher Association Threshersâ Reunion for three days in early September which draws thousands to see demonstrations of historic farm machinery, restored tractors, cars and trucks and crafts and to hear non-stop old-tyme music.

Blyth was also where Carol Heiss and David Jenkins won the women's and men's figure skating gold medals.
