  BoDeans
It's a blueprint that has worked for the BoDeans since the Wisconsin rockers borrowed that phrase from the Rolling Stones' "Shattered" and used it for the title of the band's first album in 1986.
The BoDeans -- Llanas, partner Kurt Neumann and bassist Bob Griffin, rounded out on tour by drummer Kevin Leahy and keyboardist Bukka Allen -- kept the flame burning and their fans happy with occasional tours, including a stop at Mississippi Nights two years ago.
In 1993, the BoDeans released the album "Go Slow Down." Three years later, the album track "Closer to Free" was chosen as the theme song for the TV show "Party of Five" and reached No. 6 on Billboard's Top 40.

 TrouserPress.com :: BoDeans
John Mellencamp's excursion into mandolin, fiddles and hammer dulcimer aside, there was no notable roots rock movement afoot in 1986 when BoDeans (not to be confused with Britain's Bodines) emerged from Waukesha, Wisconsin.
While a lack of pretension is the BoDeans' principal charm, it's also their biggest liability, as the band rarely strives for much more than competent tunefulness.
Depending upon your reference points, Outside Looking In — on which the BoDeans lose a drummer but regain their real names — either suffers or benefits from Talking Head (and fellow Wisconsinite) Jerry Harrison's radio-ready production, which smoothes out most of the rough edges and leaves the band sounding suspiciously like everybody else.

 The BoDeans: Resolution - PopMatters Music Review
The BoDeans came rocking out of Waukesha, Wisconsin -- which is a somewhat unlikely place for any group to come rocking out of -- in the early '80s and, via Slash Records, released one of the great debut albums of that era: Love & Hope & Sex & Dreams.
The songs are all consistently strong and undeniably catchy, proving that the guys haven't just been bumming around and scoring paychecks by playing the old songs over and over; they actually spent some time songwriting.
It seems odd that, in a musical climate where Ryan Adams and the Old '97s are shifting decent units, the BoDeans would choose to take a step away from the music that they've proven they can do so well and opt to release a record with such a mainstream sound.

In a stretched-out set, nothing the BoDeans played went far from a style derived strongly from the influential eras of Chuck Berry (who was paid homage and/or ripped off in the "Roll Over Beethoven" rewrite "Good Work") and the Byrds (all them jingle-jangly guitars).

Unfortunately for Kurt Neumann, Friday’s BoDeans show at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center in Appleton isn’t the only thing on the singer/songwriter’s mind right now.
When the case goes to trial later this month, Neumann is confident the band will retain full copyright ownership of BoDeans favorites such as “Fadeaway” and “Still the Night.” He has to be confident, because the alternative is too scary to ponder.
The bad blood between the BoDeans and McCraw has been boiling for years, said Neumann, who blames the unprecedented eight-year break between 1996’s “Blend”; and 2004’s “Resolution”; on the rift.
