Caylus (game) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Caylus initially gained public acclaim when it was rated the number one game of the October 2005 game fair in Essen, Germany by a public vote conducted by Fairplay Magazine.
With the international attention gained via BoardGameGeek and Essen 2005, the first printing of Caylus sold out in December 2005.
A second printing was released in February 2006, including new cardboard coins to replace the gray plastic tiddlywinks-style coins from the original release.

Lumbersmiths : Thoughts on Die Macher
I believe it's partially because the BoardGameGeek URL for the game is game #1 (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/1), and because I wanted to see how a game with a theme so spectacularly dull (German political elections) could be so highly regarded (it's currently listed as the 7th best game on BoardGameGeek).
I thought the BoardGameGeek convention would be my first shot at playing.
With three days of gaming to fill during the convention, I expected I would soon grow tired of 1 1/2 hour Euro games and would have plenty of time to try one of the "heavier" games.

 Letters - March, 2005
Meanwhile, Boardgamegeek is wallowing in user-generated content, but it remains difficult to zero-in on the more thoughtful content.
Even better—but more work and a challenge around deadlines—would be to provide real editing of the articles, not only proofreading them but suggesting modifications to structure or content.
Even if the "raw" submissions were available earlier on Boardgamegeek, there would be real value in reading the more professional Games Journal editions of the same articles (either online or in printouts).

My intuition after one pass through the rules is that the HM is worth perhaps 15-25 pesos near the beginning of the game and more like 20-30 near the end.
I think the rule is clear on a tie for 1st, the two players each get 1/2 the herd size rounded down.
So I just wonder if it would be better to seperate the boardgame from the PC franchise, and have it stand on its own, provided that it is as good as everyone says it is.
