One of Bob's greatest pleasures is to see or hear a former Broadcast Journalism student reporting from around the world.

Collins and Herman Luscher, a friend of Collins, were killed Tuesday when their small plane collided with a Cessna piloted by flight student Sharon Hock, who also died when the planes went down in north suburban Zion.
Collins' death was the topic of discussion for listeners of his morning show the day after his death.
Bob was the voice of Chicago, and to have that voice silenced so suddenly is an incredible tragedy.

Collins (1924-2002) took up photography as a career in 1956 when he left his job in a watch-making firm to become a regular contributor to TV Mirror until 1961.
For this magazine and others Collins documented the rise of singers and radio and television performers such as Tony Hancock, Tommy Steele and Shirley Bassey.
Patrick Procktor, Hockney's contemporary, was also captured by Bob Collins, as well as more established painters including Feliks Topolski, Frank Auerbach, Leon Kossoff and John Bratby at work on one of his many self-portraits.

Four months after WGN radio personality Bob Collins died in a midair collision, his family filed suit Monday in Cook County Circuit Court alleging negligence on the part of the company and its employee providing air-traffic control services at Waukegan Regional Airport at the time of the crash.
Bob Collins, 57, of Mettawa, his passenger, Herman Luscher, 58, also of Mettawa, and Hock, 31, of Chicago were killed when their planes collided 2 miles east of the Waukegan airport.
According to the suit, Fowler and Midwest "were negligent" in a number of ways, including their failure to alert Bob Collins that other planes were in the area and to obtain the proper location from Hock, the student pilot.
