 Solid! -- Bob Crosby
Bob Crosby is best remembered for the Dixieland band that bore his name during the 1930s and early 1940s.
Crosby turned out to be the perfect front man. A friendly fellow who had a way with the crowd, he respected and admired all the musicians and made no effort to exert his influence on them, letting Rodin quietly run things behind the scenes.
Crosby, who wanted the show to be aired in the evening, took it to NBC in 1958, where it premiered as a summer replacement series.

Although as a vocalist he may not have achieved the widespread fame of his elder brother, among crooners Bob Crosby had a distinctive timbre and a confident way with a ballad.
He was also Bob’s own personal manager, remaining faithful until the organisation disbanded in 1942, when several of its members, including Rodin himself, were drafted into the US forces.
Under Rodin’s guidance the Crosby Orchestra swiftly became the Swing Era’s pre-eminent, all-white, dixieland big-band, albeit the band’s earliest critics viewed its slavish homage to traditional 1920s Chicago and New Orleans as obsolescent and retrograde.

Bob Crosby, Bing's younger brother, often found himself in the odd position of being the least important member of his own orchestra.
To Crosby's credit, he seemed aware of his predicament and not uncomfortable at allocating most of the solo space to his talented sidemen, featuring them with his big band and his Bobcats, the latter a hot Dixieland band taken out of his orchestra.
The orchestra broke up in late 1942, Crosby served in the Marines during 1944-1945, and then spent the rest of his life in a variety of activities, often bringing back versions of the Bobcats for special concerts and recordings, taking an occasional vocal but mostly letting his sidemen play.
