Robert Brackett Elliott (born March 26, 1923) is an American comedian.
Elliott appeared on a number of other television programs including "Happy Days", "Newhart" and "Bob & Ray, Jane, Laraine & Gilda" in 1979 (with Goudling, Jane Curtin, Laraine Newman and Gilda Radner).
In 1990, Elliott portrayed Fred Peterson in the Television series, "Get A Life", which starred his real life son Chris Elliott, who also played his son in the show.

The show was a creation of Elliott, friend Adam Resnick, who, like Elliott, was a former writer for David Letterman's "Late Night with David Letterman" TV show, and David Mirkin, former writer and producer for "Newhart" and occasional writer and producer for The Simpsons.
Many of the executives at the Fox Network hated the show and thought it was too disturbing and that Elliott's character was too insane.
One of the more controversial characters on the show was Spewey the Alien, a grotesque extra-terrestrial who secreted banana pudding from under his scales when he became emotinally overwrought.

Get a Life, the Chris Elliott vehicle that appeared on Fox for a few years in the early nineties, may not be considered a classic by a lot of people, but for those of us who "get" Chris Elliott, it was a joy to watch.
His mother (Elinor Donahue) and his father (Elliott's real-life father, comedian Bob Elliott) put up with him and his antics, often to their detriment.
I would have enjoyed hearing commentaries from Chris Elliott and Brian Doyle-Murray, even if they were just goofing around and not paying much attention to what's on the screen.
