Great Character Actors   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
One actor who is a master of this art is Bob Gunton.
Gunton is not a one dimensional actor as evidenced by taking a look at his other roles.
Bob Gunton is an actor who can take a small role and make it a “big” one.

 Casting Call: Otto Octavius!
An acomplished actor, Bob Gunton also has a similar look which could work well for Otto Octavius.
These are the kinds of qualities I want to see in Octavius, none of that campy schtick he pulls in the comic, lets have him a brilliant but unballanced criminal.
Bob Gunton could do it, and do it well.

Amazon.com: Elvis Meets Nixon (1997) : Video   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
Bob Gunton does a great Dick Nixon and Rick Peters does a really good Elvis, minus the singing voice.
The factuality which the story is based on is the letter Elvis sent to Nixon which is fantastic itself and the photo of Elvis in the purple cape suit with the President in the Oval Office - proof that the meeting did occur.
For better or worse, Elvis and Nixon did more to shape the culture of the second half of the 20th Century than practically anyone else; it is natural that they seem somehow inevitably drawn together, and this movie tells the story the way I truly and dearly wish it had actually happened.

The Audio Revolution DVD Review of The Shawshank Redemption
Darabont doesn't make it emphatic or even obvious (until the last fifteen minutes, when it needs to be obvious), but the core idea here is the absolute necessity of never giving up hope.
Every incident in the film reflects the theme, from the brutal attacks of the "bull queers," to Andy's establishment of a good prison library, to helping cocky young prisoner Tommy (Gil Bellows) even to shady financial arrangements the corrupt Warden Norton (Bob Gunton) forces Andy to arrange.
The concept that even under the worst of circumstances, there's still room for a wishing star, for hope, for the possibility of redemption, runs through the movie like a shining thread.
