Robert "Bob" Harras is an American comics writer and editor, who was editor-in-chief of Marvel Comics from 1995 to 2000.

Bob Harras joined WildStorm as Contributing Editor on November 15, 2001.

Quesada understands what being a writer and artists is like, and that perspective is something Bob Harras sorely lacked.
Harras was so sure that the vision he had for Marvel’s titles was the "right" one that he overstepped his bounds and reduced the writers that answered to him to nothing more than puppets.
Harras might as well have written the books himself.

Bob Harras: We dabbled in it for a while, because you have to face that there are trends in the world, but I don't think it's really what the X-Men are about.
Bob Harras: I think I said it earlier: I don't know if it's a theme, but there's one thing I [as editor] definitely want people to remember, and that is the fact that you're not writing about "the bad guy showing up to bash the good guy".
Bob Harras: It is part of the continuity, but what I mean by saying that it's not part of "my continuity" is that it's not going to impact on where I go with my characters.

"BREACH"-ING THE DCU WITH BOB HARRAS - NEWSARAMA
Breach is the brainchild of former Marvel Comic Editor-in-Chief Bob Harras who was asked by DC Comics to pitch a redesign for Captain Atom, who hasn’t had a solo regular series since 1991.
Harras said that he realized that having Breach as a new character as opposed to a relaunch took a bit of the load off his shoulders, “Certainly, if we had gone with a Captain Atom relaunch, the pressures would have involved tinkering with a much-loved character that has been around for decades.
Harras is also excited about the pull between Zanetti as a hero while also remaining a soldier.

Harras' creative stranglehold on the X-titles has been well known among the X-title readership and most comics readers for a long time now.
I'm sure if Harras so chose he could find plenty of individuals who would be more than happy to simply get a paycheck and languish in the role of subservient puppet writers.
I don't think I'm alone in my distaste for Harras, and I definitely think that Marvel would be better off with an Editor-in-Chief who would trust and respect the ability of the writers under him or her to guide the character or characters in their respective books in the right direction.

I thought the Bob Harras run on Avengers really was kinda standard stuff, but I'm willing to give him a chance here.
In it, he pointed out that really, since the Silver Age Green Lantern, there hasn't been a new (or "new" as GL was based on the GA version) superhero that's really caught on and held on to their own series for any appreciable length of time.

Her hair and the relationship have changed drastically, Harras says, in the year that separates the limited series and the new series, Harras says the couple split up.
But Harras says the first mystery that Fury must solve about the murder is "Why is the coffin empty?" Harras said the commandos, who are super-powered and more than a match for the low-budget SHIELD, have a bizarre reason for their allegiance to Strucker's fascist doctrines.
Harras says these powerful foes will be difficult to tackle since his new group is so small.

I was a fan of Harras in his days at Marvel, particularly his work on the Avengers, so his name is what initially piqued my interest in the title.
Harras is going to have an uphill battle with Breach; it’s going to be hard to see it finding a growing audience in today’s market.
Harras seems intent on taking a darker approach, focusing on the idea that Tom is not blessed with cool new powers, but rather is stripped from everything he loved, including his humanity.

GrayHaven Magazine presents.. "The Life of Reilly" [ Chapter 33 ]
Featuring appearances by Mark, Glenn, Bob Harras (Marvel's EIC at the time), Ralph Macchio, Tom DeFalco, Tom Brevoort and many, many more, the issue was done tongue-in-cheek, like the old "assistant editor" issues and behind-the-scenes gimmicks that Marvel used to do way back when.
Later on, when Bob Harras decided that Aunt May's death had to be undone, he wanted it established that Norman had faked her death and was keeping her hidden the whole time.
Ralph and I pointed out to Harras that THE OSBORN JOURNAL had clearly established that Norman had no role in the Aunt May situation, and that the main reason I established that in the first place was to follow Harras's own edict that Norman should not be responsible for everything in Peter Parker's life.

 Welcome To Dynamic Forces
I watched how Mark and Bob approached the press; not by doing a lot of talking, but by working on their books.
My feeling was that Bob had gotten a little less reckless now that he was editor-in-chief, but I eventually realized that he was trying to protect more than just the lives of a bunch of fictional characters -- he was trying to preserve the jobs of his editors: a responsibility that Bob took extremely seriously.
So we would on occasion fight, but ultimately, Bob, Mark and myself were a team, and it was a fun office to share.

Originally assigned to draw half the issues in a six-part bi-weekly The Avengers story arc, Epting ended up drawing five or the six issues (#335-339.) Shortly thereafter, Epting became the full-time penciler on Avengers.
Working closely with writer Bob Harras and inker/colorist Tom Palmer, Epting helped craft several epic Avengers adventures, beginning with issue #343 and ending with issue #375.
Epting's art was generally well-received, but the stories themselves were controversial due to their dark tone and their deviation from the Avengers status quo.

I have, however been informed by another source that Bob Harras' firing was welcome news to his wife who was very pleased with the severance pay.

As long-time readers of this column know, Budiansky had been the Editor in Chief of the Spider-Man Group, but became Spider-Man Group Editor when Bob Harras was promoted to Editor in Chief of Marvel.
My understanding is that under Marvel’s “Five Editors in Chief” system, which was in place from the end of 1994 to the end of 1995, each of the EICs had to increase the sales figures of their lines of books by a certain percentage over the course of that year.
Once Budiansky was gone, Bob Harras promptly dissolved the Spider-Man Group and placed all four of the core titles with one editor.
