Robert Kahn (composer) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kahn was one of seven children born to one of the wealthiest and most distinguished families of bankers and merchants in Germany at the time.
Kahn and his music have been almost entirely forgotten since World War II, but are slowly being rediscovered by musicians and audiences, like the case of many other composers of "degenerate music" persecuted by the Nazis.
Kahn composed prolifically for the chamber repertoire, writing in an intimate, lyrical style that is reminiscent of Felix Mendelssohn, Robert Schumann, and Johannes Brahms.

Bob Kahn: Well, what happened was he had done enough work early on that we knew it was sufficient, but we hadn't spent enough time in the program, so we assigned him to work with another faculty member who is actually still on the faculty and a good friend of mine.
Bob Kahn: And this fellow at NSF was named Steve Wolfe, and Steve was really the architect of sort of moving it from this research phase into a much more operational phase, mainly for the university community and research community.
Bob Kahn: No. It's going to stay except that instead of the responsibility staying with us we're going to hand it over to the actual community of the thousands of folks out there who are responsible for it, who've got their own structure of how they're organized.

Bob is in favor of such a thing but has not had time yet to pull such a group together and there is some uncertainty if enough people will volunteer, his initial approach to people yielded lots of people interested but with other things to do.
Bob is not sure who will be at the conference, its theme is networks and their impact on soceity, implications for regulation etc. so ther should be a broad spectrum of people; will send me a program.

 Robert Kahn, TCP/IP Co-Designer
Kahn laid the open architecture foundations for the TCP/IP protocol, providing the Internet with one of its most distinctive features and what has proven to be a key advantage.
In 1972, Kahn was hired by Lawrence Roberts at the IPTO to work on networking technologies, and in October he gave a demonstration of an ARPANET network connecting 40 different computers at the International Computer Communication Conference, making the network widely known for the first time to people from around the world.
Kahn has continue to nurture the development of the Internet over the years through shepherding the standards process and related activities, and is now President of the Corporation for National Research Initiatives (CNRI), a not-for-profit organization which performs research in the public interest on strategic development of network-based information technologies.

Maxwell reports that Dr. Kahn felt strongly that the oversight of these two functions should be clearly separated and that this might be difficult to achieve if a single organization to were to oversee both functions.
Maxwell reports that Dr. Kahn is concerned that if the two areas are jointly overseen, there might be an inclination on the part of the new organization to favor the current domain name system and perhaps impede the development and implementation of other naming or identification systems.
Kahn suggested that a relationship between the new corporation overseeing DNS and the IP numbering organizations may be advantageous, but he would not require it, leaving to the numbering bodies the choice of whether they wanted any particular relationship with the new DNS oversight organization.

On the other side of the debate -- and in case you had any doubts, this is a debate between the dark side and the force -- there was Jon Nuechterlein and Paul Glist, who both had a thing or two to say about the evils of Net Neutrality rules.
The coolest thing about Kahn's idea was that it totally silenced a panel of law professors and lawyers, and hushed a room full of legal experts.
