Layton, who had gone to the airstrip posing as a defector from the temple, shot and wounded two genuine defectors who were trying to leave the country with Ryan's party in a separate airplane.
Layton is free on bail during the appeal.

That series, which Bob Layton wrote and drew, spawned a successful sequel, a graphic novel and is still available to this day in trade paperback format.
Bob left Valiant, New York City and the comics industry in 1996, immigrating to Florida to take a long-awaited break from the 'rat race' and cold, cold winters.
As with many of Bob's previous efforts on the series with David, the story was scripted by Michelinie, while Layton contributed the co-plotting, penciling and inking.

Bob Layton was the co-founder and editor-in-chief of CPL/Gang Publications, which published several fanzines throughout the 1970s, including CPL, The Charlton Bullseye, Witzend and Heroes Inc. He had a long run on Marvel's 'Iron Man', and was they co-creator of 'X-Factor' and 'Ant-Man' for Marvel Premiere.
Layton is the co-founder and editor-in-chief of Valiant Comics, and the creator of most of the publisher's popular characters.
Bob Layton launched Future Entertainment in 2002, where he developed such series as 'Deathmask', 'Metallix', 'Peacekeeper' and 'Freemind'.

Collection of stories in this tradepaperback from the acclaimed David Michelinie/Bob Layton run writing IRON MAN, in which the Golden Avenger clashes with the metal madman from Laveria and end up going back in time and then to the future with King Arthur and the wizard Merlin.
Great reading for Iron Man fans and one hopes they make an Iron Man film someday as the character could make an easy transistion from comics to film.
