Robert "Bob" Martinez (born December 25, 1934 in Tampa, Florida) was the fortieth governor of Florida from 1987 to 1991.
Martinez, whose family descended from Cuba, was the first American governor of Hispanic decent and the second Republican governor of Florida since Reconstruction.
In 1990, Governor Martinez was defeated in his re-election bid by former Democratic Senator Lawton Chiles.

Make no mistake, the 3 hour plus delay was the result of Holtzman’s distrust of county chairs, the State GOP leadership and in effect every single delegate who devoted their personal time to travel to Colorado Springs and participate in this important process.
Chairman Martinez was polite in repeating himself throughout the afternoon that this new voting process was something both campaigns agreed to, but let no one be fooled as to who fought his very own party to change how the voting process would be done at this assembly.
