Inspired by an incident Connelly witnessed while driving one of his sons to parochial school, he and Mosher wrote the original story for "The Private War of Major Benson," a 1955 movie comedy starring Charlton Heston as a hard-nosed Army major who takes command of the ROTC program at a children's academy.
Connelly, who was then the father of six -- later seven -- children, and Mosher, the father of two, had to look no further than their own homes for inspiration.
After "Beaver" was canceled in 1963, Connelly and Mosher developed and produced another family situation comedy, one far removed from the white-bread Cleavers of Mayfield: "The Munsters," starring Fred Gwynne as a Frankenstein look-alike and Yvonne DeCarlo as his vampire-looking wife, Lily.

BBC - Comedy Guide - The Bob Cummings Show
The comic adventures of dashing, skirt-chasing Hollywood fashion photographer Bob Collins (without coincidence, the same initials as the star), who resists the overtures of his many curvaceous conquests to tie the knot, fighting every inch to maintain his footloose bachelor status.
Life was quieter at home, just, where Bob lived with Margaret, his widowed sister, and her teenage crew-cut son Chuck who, as he grew older, clearly aspired to emulate his uncle's lifestyle.
The Bob Cummings Show was a typical product of a now outdated era when the love'em-and-leave-'em macho lifestyle was considered fair play, before popular culture swung back to something approaching equality and social diseases became more prominent.

Leave it to Beaver : tvland.com
Premiering in the fall of 1957 and focusing on the adventures of seven-year-old Theodore "Beaver" Cleaver and his 12-year-old brother, Wally, Leave It to Beaver was remarkably fresh for its time.
While its tone reflected the innocence of the era, the series had a realistic edge thanks to the show's creators, Joe Connely and Bob Mosher, who based most of the young characters on their own kids and other children they knew.
The episode where Wally gives Beaver a crummy coif after losing his haircut money was taken straight from the experience of little Bobby Mosher.

This item is making the rounds of educational bloggers, if only for this line: "Bob is Director, Learning and Strategy Evangelism, for Microsoft Learning.
He told us, 'In the hour that I'm with you, two Microsofttraining centers will go under.'" Now I notice that this line is no longer on Jay Cross's blog post, but it's too late, it's out there, most recently in today's elearningpost.
Myconclusion: Bob Mosher probably said it, but then wished he hadn't, because it probably isn't true (because, if you think about it, that would mean 48 training centers going under in a day, 1440 in a month), and Jay was probably nice enough to erase it.
